Cheap UniqueFire C108 clone

I always liked the looks of the C108 but didn’t want to pay the high price for such a mediocre light. The CrazyFire C4 looks like a clone but the tail cap is knurled instead of grooved and the finish looks cheap. The picture shows an XML but the description says XML2 (and some other nonsense) so who knows what I’ll get. For $12, I won’t complain as long as I get a half decent host.

I have the original uniquefire… it’s not a bad light really… have decent throw, the only con is probably that 5 modes including the blinkie, it looks nicer than the common regular C8 too

Looks pretty good. Came with an XML, not XML2 but it’s got a nice aluminum reflector that’s actually a little smoother than my XinTD or Convoy C8. The anodizing isn’t as bad as I expected, dark gray with a hint of green, kinda military looking. Says it takes 18650 or CR123A on the head. It has a solid aluminum pill with a retaining ring securing the driver. The bare threads are standard but not sloppy at all and the pill has about twice as many threads as a generic C8  . It also Legos with the UF C8 and C12. O-rings are snug. The LED centering ring is a bit long so it blocks a little light but that can easily be trimmed, otherwise, it seems well focused. Everything about this light has surpassed my expectations.

Here’s the C4 pill compared to a C8 pill. Not only is there more than twice as many threads, they’re also about .15mm tighter.

Never heard of this brand before. They have a US ebay store: http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Stock-Crazyfire-C4-LED-Flashlight-Torch-Cree-XM-L-T6-2000-Lumens-LED-Torch-/261665375184 The emitter is here named as XM-L T6. And at Ali too: http://de.aliexpress.com/store/product/CrazyFire-C4-Waterproof-5-Modes-cree-XM-L2-Super-Bright-LED-Lamp-Light-Powerful-Flashlight-Torch/605037_32307323303.html But the Amazon price is the cheapest, at least if you live in the US.
At Ali you can find other “CrazyFire” models, there is also a C8: Page Not Found - Aliexpress.com
It would be Crazy not to buy one…

CrazyFire?! I have an urge to buy it just by looking at that name! J)

I purchased a Securitying light that looked exactly liker this one but it fell apart. The LED pill wasen't making contact with the rest of the light and overheated.

Is this one made well? Mode Memory ?

Thanks

Nice find. Wish I didn't have some many lights in this format already. Thanks for the alert.

The good: Threads are tight, lots of pill to head contact area, reflector is nice, glass lens, good switch (?), tailstands ok, deep knurling, Legos with UF C8/12, can use CR123A cells.

The bad: Somewhat uncomfortable sharp edges, a couple minor dings, typical cheap anodizing, no memory, close mode spacing, only 1 amp on high (maybe more on 6 volts), better driver fitment may not be very easy.

IMO, what makes this a good host are the threads which is something that can’t be fixed if too loose. Everything else except the finish can be easily fixed.

Here’s the switch:

Thanks I like the fact that it doesn't remember the modes. I like them to start on high everytime.

thanks

That’s what it does but I like low first. I suppose it’s a good driver if you don’t mind a dim high and a relatively bright low. The difference between modes is barely noticeable when the cell’s low.
