Noctigon Meteor M43 official sales and discussion thread

The XP-L's would be the floodiest I would think, but this light is not set up or has options for max flood (XP-L's must be de-domed and the optics are Carclo 10507 which are spots, not floods).

Hot super flood setup would be Carclo 10508's from Richard widened to take full domed XP-L's, then use the top bin V6 XP-L's. 10509's are even wider but Richard doesn't offer an option to widen them. I would think that it might be above 9K lumens based on Hanks' #'s. It would be like $92 to upgrade (maybe little cheaper), because of the LED's. Richard's widened optics are great btw - I've used a triple and quad and they came out great.

Sure would be nice to buy an M43 without LED's and optics and let us customize it ourselves Smile. Basically a host plus driver... Would satisfy TK's request for tint mixing too.

thank you Tom for sharing this info. It helps me to decide, or not.

A host with everything but LED’s for a $15-20 discount is something I could get behind!

If the info about no PWM is correct, I doubt tint mixing would look very good; the low levels would probably be a mess of color. However, I might try doing 8 x XP-G2 3D and 4 x Nichia 219, which should give nice neutral white output with more lumens than the Nichia setup normally gets. If done well, the 3D tint looks very close to a 219B.

Different optics might be nice though; I usually like flood except on dedicated throwers.

Dunno if at all it would be practical for Hank - basically he'd be selling somewhat untested components maybe, or, the testing is more difficult without LEDs/optics

I want to get one of these but am undecided about which one to get.

I’d really like to see a beamshot of the tint on the dedomed 1D. I am somewhat of a tint snob and haven’t gotten good results with dedomed CREE LEDS.

Unfortunately, it sounds like there’s only one dedomed 1D sample, and it’s in the mail somewhere heading from RMM to the next tester.

The Nichia has the best tint, but it’s output is over 50% lower than with XPG2. That’s a pretty huge hit in lumens. This would be my largest and heaviest LED light. It should carry a real wow factor over my smaller lights. I’m not sure 4000 lumens is enough.

I really like the tint on those 4000K LEDs RMM had. Maybe if I don’t like the tint on whatever meteor I get I could just buy a dozen of those and reflow.

The XP-G2 version would basically get you one mode higher than the Nichia version.

As for “wow factor”, that’s affected more by the distance to your target than it is by the actual lumen number. My 500-lm SC52 looks just as impressive as my 3300-lm Cypreus, if I shine the SC52 from ~5 inches and the Cypreus from ~20 inches. Muggles don’t really know the difference as long as the spot hurts to look at.

I already have a Sinner Cypreus Tri-EDC copper with FET driver and triple dedomed XPL neutral (probably 3000 lumens). I also have a tiny modded Convoy S2+ mini with FET driver and domed XPL 3d with modded 10507 optic (around 2500 lumens).

The Meteor will be several times bigger than the Cypreus and probably 8x bigger than the Convoy. If I’m going to get a big light like that, it would be nice for it to feel like a substantial upgrade in output.

Well, if you take a 500 lumens EDC reflector and a 3,000+ lumens flooder and light up a backyard with each, you, or anyone, will see a big, huge difference for sure.... Comparing a 2500 flooder to a 5000 lumens flooder, maybe not so much. 2500 to 7500 should be very clear.

Oh, I doubt the Meteor will get more “wow” than either of the above; size is a big factor in how people react. A small bright light will get a bigger reaction than a big bright light, and the single triples have a higher lumen-to-size ratio than the quad-triple Meteor. (and by that measure, DBCstm’s Texas Poker is probably the most impressive torch on the planet)

However, the Meteor is the smallest and brightest “stubby” light on the market and is pretty impressive even if it might not get more “wow” than a fully-pimped Cypreus. Perhaps you’d get more mileage out of the upcoming Vinh model?

Also worth mentioning… At equivalent lumen levels, the Meteor will be able to run longer and cooler due to the extra batteries and extra mass. So what would normally be a turbo-only mode on a Cypreus could be a regular operating mode on the Meteor. Just in case you want to use it for practical purposes.

I have any practical purposes in mind; I just want a Meteor because it’s wicked cool. (and to encourage Noctigon to make more cool stuff in the future)

I know to get the most out of this light, you should be using high drain, low resistance cells. The problem is, I’m looking for something relatively cheap, has a high capacity (>2900mAh) and performs well.

These are the candidates:

- Panasonic NCR18650PF (2900mAh) at US$55.90 for 10

- LG HG2 (3000mAh) at US$66 for 10

- Panasonic NCR18650BD (3200mAh) at US$72.80 for 10

If you simply go for $ per mAh ratio, the best option is NCR18650PF at $0.0019 per mAh. The LG is a little bit higher at $0.0022 per mAh; NCR18650BD is $0.0023; and NCR18650BL is $0.0025.

I’m leaning towards the LG HG2 because that has more headroom at 20A versus NCR18650PF’s 10A discharge.

fresh off hanks site:

*D-D refers to De-Domed LEDs.

Led & TintCool White - XP-G2 S4 2B
XP-G2 S2 1D de-domed ( +$10.00 )
Neutral White - Nichia 219BT 92 CRI ( +$30.00 )
Cree XP-L de-domed LED ( +$60.00 )

I think for $60 we should get a choice of which XP-L

and just to drive em crazy how about a choice of optics?

Fixed :)

He means this: S4 2B 6900lm rating, Nichia 4000lm rating, percentage decrease is 42%

That's what I said :D

Firelight2's original post says over 50%.

OK, I understand now

Does this mean my order for a stone white S3 3C (to be replaced with 3D) will ship soon? :~

Anyone have any updates on the ship dates?

Mine shipped on May 8th.
