Review: Convoy S2+ (the red one!) – Fantastic 18650 EDC

Yay. Just ordered one

Me too! - The Red Convoy S2+ 2.8A XM-L2 4C, that is…

Ordered Friday morning, with E-Packet, tracking, and Insurance.

The said that they received my PayPal payment 1 minute later, but today, still Processing:-(

I’ve heard that “e-packet” is faster than Auto free ship? - Is it?

My last (only) order took 21 days from GB, I “think” with auto…

Thanks for the good review Chicken Drumstick!

Does anyone know if it comes with a glow in the dark (gitd) lens o-ring? If not, what size is the o-ring?

I think this is what you are referring to:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Free-shipping-21-1-5mm-green-fluorescense-silicone-O-ring-for-flashlight/330416_1042901922.html

But they don’t glow very long, not even in my Convoy S2+ where I replaced the XM-L2 with a UV-led!

Yea I know they don’t glow for long, which is why I need to order quite a few of them

Yay….The convoy entered my country today. It should be at my mailbox in 2 days or so  Kind of waiting to check out the floodiness of it and the great neutral tint

i received mine today, less than a month from i ordered it. i’m not sure about the tint, seems a bit green to me? just tried it indoors, and against a couple of other flashlights (a ww nichia 119, a xeno e3 in NW, and something in unknown tint…)
otherwise i think it’s a nice flashlight so far

rec’ed mine last week, my first Convoy. It’s awesome esp for the price. Will likely get more.

I’ve had mine in 4C tint for the last few days, and there is (of course) a bit too much yellow/green. - I knew that this would be the case before I ordered it. - I really do like the light.

Why can’t they ever offer anything below the BBL except for the 1A?

3D - 4A - 4D does it for me.

Thanks,

-Chuck

Weird - I like the 4C tint - can't notice any green or yellows. Got a bunch of lights with them, plus the fact that it seems like these 4C's on the market can be driven to 6.5A. To me it looks like a soft smooth white, though I like the 5B1's better when compared side by side. The D's though are also nice: 3D, 4D's. Never cared for the 1C's or 1D's, since they seem to have the yellowish tint in the corona of the hot spot, and the blue tinted spill - the only thing white is the hot spot. The 5B1's look smooth white consistent through-out, even in an SMO focused beam pattern.

A lot of the tint issues depends on the optics of the light though, and of course the eyes of the viewer.

“A lot of the tint issues depends on the optics of the light though, and of course the eyes of the viewer.”

This is so true. - I’m quite sure that no one is lying here.

We really all do see things differently.

Not just the eyes, but then the signal has to get to the brain, when there it’s up to the brain to interpret what the eyes have collected. - Data.

I like cw and nw, but would have to drop the “w” on must anything binned a nw. - Most all are yellow to me.

I do have some cw where I can call the hot-spot White, but only one NW - A 5000k Nichia.

Thanks,
-Chuck

Edit: But things don’t always look their best (to me), with cw or nw, so that is why I have both. - That way I can pick and choose:-)

What a joke…… I have to go at the Customs to fetch a $9.21 declared flashlight. We have an allowance of about $75 normally. Items as big as sjcam4000, Mlais phones, Fenix BC30 packages have come to my house delivered by the postman this year. I don’t understand why such a small puny item is detained pending I go fetch it…

How very annoying.

Gosh! Must be the awesome red color that caught their eyes!

Flashlight cost $12. Fhuel cost to the post office / customs office $10….not counting the lost time traveling.

Where can i get this for $12 please?

I just received the red S2+ form Gearbest and I cannot get the memory mode to work. It always turns on at the next mode which is so very annoying. Especially when I switch it off from High, and I turn it on a minute later and it is on Strobe.

I even cancelled the "disco" modes (turn off and on again when at Low and light flashes once). I still cannot get the memory mode to work. I turn it off from High, leave it for a minute and then it turns on at low. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi,

I have one and the memory seems to be based on how long that you leave it “ON” in any given mode.

You need to let it “RUN” for at least 5sec in any given mode to get the mem to work.

Please let us know if this worked for you.

Thanks,
-Chuck

Thanks Chuck, your help is much appreciated, I would have never thought of that.

Now I leave it to RUN for 5secs in High, I switch it off and when I switch it on again after a few seconds it on is on "High" again. So yes, the memory seems to work as you suggested.

But

If at any time I leave it ON at any given mode for less than 5secs, the light switches on at the next mode.

Example:

-Switch ON in High, stays on for 5 secs, then switch OFF --->

-Switch ON again in High (memory mode works), light stays on for less than 5 secs, then switch OFF --->

-Switch ON in Low (next mode, no memory)

I want the light to always switch On in High, and somehow it always switches On in Low (I know why: because now that I test the S2+ I forget to leave it On for 5secs in any mode).

I think the UI in this light is a little counter-intuitive. You need to think "1-banana, 2-banana, 3-banana, 4-banana, 5-banana" before switching OFF, or you won't have mode memory!

Thanks again for the help!

You are welcome. - Glad that it worked for you.

Yes - I think that the UI is a bit strange, but then I’m considered a bit strange too.

Hey! - That’s the only reason I was able to figure it out:-)

Have a Great Day, all…

-Chuck

I have several lights that are a few years old that also use that driver. the light must run for 5 seconds to memorize modes. I just got used to it. lol
