It sounds like there may be some confusion over what “GB” is. Sometimes it’s “group buy”, sometimes it’s “GearBest.com”. If I understand correctly, the units from gearbest might be an inferior clone of the original Convoy light.
Can we get Simon to help us convince Convoy to do some production runs in different colors?
The rumored blue would be nice or even Olive, Tan or Safety Orange would be awesome!
In this case, mine appears to be to spec, and was purchased from Gearbest.
I’m really happy with mine, and pretty pissed about ‘GB’ selling something now that is different, an obviously cheaper.
It really ticks me off that honesty cannot be a given when talking a name brand, and I am really starting to look at Gearbest more closely now.
I was one of the Ten winners of one of the Green SK68s in GB’s giveaway a short time ago. - Never would I consider purchasing such a cheap light, but since receiving it, it has become just about my most used light. - Not the best at anything, but seems to be just what I actually need, most of the time. - So…before all the flack hit today about this “less than spec” Red Convoy, I order 2 of the newer Camo SK 68s from GB (Gearbest), just today. - Not a large investment to be sure, but I do wonder what they will be like for $2.99?… Will they be ‘the same’ as what was given to me? - Time will tell.
I would really like to hear Simon’s take on this $12.99 Gearbest Red S2, as it is still “his name brand” on these newer/cheaper Red S2. - I’d like to know if he made them, or if he is being ripped off. - If it turns out that he did Not make them, I’m going to have to pull GB off of my list (ouch!)… that will teach em:-)
I’m sorta old fashioned - I expect to get what was advertised, regardless of how much or how little it costs.
I have two S2+ (even though I am not a girl and no-one loves me). One from Gearbest ordered about 15 May and one from Convoy. Fortunately they appear identical. Brass in all the right places.
Thanks for the info, seems like there’s multiple editions that Gearbest sells. It would be great if Simon could chime in and clarify, as well as a Gearbest rep.
There seems to be a number of dealers under the Aliexpress umbrella selling Convoy. I wonder if anyone has any experience buying from these dealers.
eg http://www.aliexpress.com/store/1750069 Burnfire Outdoor seems to be almost identical to http://www.aliexpress.com/store/330416 Shenzhen Convoy Electronics Co., Ltd.
but selling only a few Convoys & nothing else
