Review: Acebeam K60 (1 x XHP70 | 4 x 18650)

Great review The

I agree to your review, the K60 is an awesome light, the only thing I would ask AceBeam to fix is to add a small chamfer to the inside wall of the tailcap where you put your thumb to activate the light (Or just remove it completely!), as indicated in the picture (Great pics BTW!)

Pretty surprising to see it out throwing the TN32! This light really is approaching HID territory.

Nice review, this is the first Acebeam to make me want to part with some cash. Great beamshots and teardown thanks =the=. I was wondering is the led pcb aluminium or copper?

amd comparison beam shots!I still can’t believe how this thing throws a wall lime a skyray but the wall keep on going and going and going,my son and I took his small sun modded with an xhp50 that was impressive than the k40 more impressive and than the x60 which kit up a hill at over 300 meters and the look on the cows faces when the light hit them I don’t know who was more shocked me or the cows lol!
Does anyone know about the Acebeam x25 with the xpl yet?

First of all, thank you everyone for the compliments!

Copper, with direct thermal path, just like in every higher end Acebeam light.

Do you mean T25 with XHP50? I have one of those. About 3200lm (OTF, 30s) and throws pretty well. Would be very suitable for a police or night guard.

Comparison to K60 (Mouse over for K60):

The T25 is no slouch either! Great shots…

The photos are very good as in all your reviews, appreciate the time you put into doing such complete review.

May I ask, there is always good weather on your night shots - do you edit the sky on pictures? :)

Great review, I really enjoyed reading it!

Thanks!

No, I don't edit the sky. :) It's always good weather in Finland (or then I just happen to shoot during good weather :))

Editing beamshots would be cheating, so I just convert them from NEF to JPEG (all photos of that set with the same settings - of course), crop if necessary, and resize.

Hi Guys, can someone explain the below from Acebeam website re: the K60.

Also, any specials on this flash light atm?

caution:

highly recommend using unprotected high drain battery (ARC18650H-250A) which at least 20A 2500mAh, the circuit might be tripping if use protected one.

Cheers.

Thanks a lot for this great review!

Is there a mouseover comparison K40M vs K60 long distance? This is exactly the comparison I’m interested in.

How did you remove the glue?
I have a K60 with defective driver I could probably repair or get a replacement driver for, but failed at the glued screws.
(The defect: it’s direct drive in all modes but low).

Sure. Here we go: 280m beamshots:

..and same image, cropped:

The answer is heat. Hot air (280°C if I remember correctly) applied directly to the glue makes it soft, after which you can press the screwdriver in.

Is Acebeam willing to offer you replacement driver?

I’m hoping Light-Wolff will stop back into the forum and answer this question. I’m in the market for either the AceBeam K60 or the Noctigon Meteor M43. I want to see how Acebeam handles this situation. I’m already not happy they’ve black-listed this forum due to the GB we’ve had for their lights. I certainly can understand their side of it, but this forum has been purchasing their products and writing some good reviews about their lights. Not to mention brought to their attention the charging issue with the battery carrier (or maybe forced them to fix it) In any event, no good deed seems to go unpunished.

I'd rather not continue this discussion in the review thread, but as it already started..

1. AceBeam has 24month warranty and K60 is a new light, so: Yes, they will either replace the light (their preferred solution, I guess) or send a new driver.

@Light-Wolff: I can help you to fix your light. PM me if interested. :)

Another thing that came to my mind: I saw that kind of behaviour once - caused by magnets used as spacers in a light with magnetic control wheel. Too strong magnetic field mixed up the sensors.. (Solution was to use magnets as spacers only in the other end of the carrier)

2. I have heard rumors about AceBeam black-listing this forum. Did that really happen?

And my 2c about the battery carrier fix: Things tend to happen (very) slowly when dealing with companies from that country / region. Maybe, just maybe, we forced them to fix it too fast and that was one reason for the wrong / incomplete solution?

@ the
Thanks for the additional photos, the difference between K40M and K60 is indeed impressive.

As for driver removal:
I tried hot air (reflow solder air gun), up to 550°C, I could poke the screwdriver in, but the screw wouldn’t move anyway. The glue didn’t become soft.

I purchased the K60 via HKE.
I suggested to HKE a driver replacement. They forwarded this to Acebeam.
But after I wrote them that I had failed in opening the driver, HKE offered that I return the light and they send it to Acebeam for repair.
Nice, but this could take 3 months altogeher. I don’t want to wait that long. So I’ll make another attempt to open it within the next few days.
I even considered to bore out the screws an then cut new threads, but because the screws got through the PCB this would also kill the vias on the screw holes through the PCB, probably a bad idea.

I’m quite sure that only the switcher FET is defective, easy to replace once the driver is out.

Bella doesn’t seem to reply Ronin42… M4DM4X also said that Acebeam is blacklisting all the vendors that are selling below MSRP :frowning: I really like their stuff. No idea why they did that considering BLF contributed greatly to their reputation and R&D

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I believe Acebeam is willing to replace you with a new K60, but I am pretty sure they will require you to return your current K60 first and they will most probably not cover the return shipping fees, which is unfair to us.

I once received a K50 with some functionality issues and I had to pay the return shipping fees by myself to send it back. I did get full refund of the light itself though.

I too have heard stories like how Acebeam ignore and refuse to service some customers when they are not happy with these customers for some reasons, but I am not sure how true these stories are. I just kinda afraid that Acebeam will “blacklist” me all in a sudden for whatever reason it is after I have purchased their GB products. Speaking about GB, do we remember the K50 groupbuy organized by Old Lumens that dealing with Acebeam directly? While Acebeam dislikes the vendors to sell their products at below MAP, Acebeam has already done this by themselves before.

Sounds like another typical acebeam scam scenario. File a paypal dispute immediately and escalate your claim as soon as paypal allows it. Do not cancel your PP dispute until you have received a fair solution. Now would also be a great time to file for a 100% refund to get rid of it (if you so chose) and demand that acebeam pays return shipping. Channel all your communications to acebeam through the paypal dispute system so that paypal supervisors can be made aware of the entire situation. Copy/paste your prior emails through the paypal dispute system if necessary. Acebeam should pay return shipping, repair your light and pay for its return. If they refuse, simply tell the PP supervisor that its ridiculous and unfair that you should have to pay return shipping for an expensive item that you just received and they will likely decide in your favor. If the paypal dispute ends in an email againts you, call paypal and ask to speak with a claims representative. Dont back down and state your case. As far as I am aware, I have NEVER lost a paypal dispute across many thousands of transactions. Just be truthful and factual and let the other party put their foot up their arse. Acebeam is famous for their blunders and lies and always loses.

The problem with Acebeam is that they consider any constructive criticism an insult that they just cant cope with. They would rather run and stick their heads in the sand like an ostrich, and hope it all goes away before it bites them in the ass. Even when we told them in great detail how to correct the large amount of shoddy engineering built into their products, most comments went completely ignored. This was also true throughout over 100 direct emails I sent to Bella (acebeam CS). The members of this forum have been the guinea pigs and R & D for this thankless evasive company. We pointing out the many problems with their lights and how they needed to correct them. Except for the dangerous rechargeable cell carrier problems (which apparently still remains a shitty fail today), they have done nothing to acknowledge their problems and correct them, even though others explained in great detail how to rectify their flaws!

Now for the 4th time, acebeam needs to change their company name again. Through their repeated horrendous failures as a manufacturer, FAILBEAM sounds perfect! (other 4 letter words would be far more appropriate, but I’ll leave that for others to decide).

Want to keep your light and use it? If you have one of these lights or similar, turn it off or reduce the output when the selector ring becomes too hot to hold comfortably. Hopefully this will prevent the driver and cells from frying themselves. Repeated use will eventually overheat the batteries, making them too hot to touch! Just be aware of this and use good judgement.

If you experience a failure, please let us all know in the appropriate threads so others can read before making a purchase decision… ie: throwing away good money.

Acebeam always asks us to be quiet about our broken or failed lights that they send us. DO NOT FALL FOR THAT TRICK! POST IT HERE AND ACROSS ALL APPROPRIATE THREADS SO THERE ARE NO SECRETS!

The problem is I only realized the unable-to-turn-on issue after about 5 months of using, which was already well beyond the Paypal protection period. :( I don't know why I didn't find it out earlier, maybe the issue only occur after some times or I didn't use it frequent enough. Anyway some people told me that I was lucky to be able to get full refund from Acebeam even just for the light itself.

Hi. When presenting the MicroFire Excalibur PL 20?
