My S2+ looks just like the one Octanacious received, see his photos at posts #107,111 and 117. Also my light came with an XML Not XML2.

Hmm, Ordered mine a few weeks ago at 12.99 from GB.
appears to be of genuine convoy quality,
Brass pill, 4C tint, EXCELLENT fit and finish!
Not sure how it’s gonna go from here tho.
Received my red S2+ ordered from Gearbest for $12.99.
Sadly the quality is not on par with the other Convoy lights I own, or the nicer S2+ most people have reported:
-Received the wrong tint (ordered NW)
-Cheaply made aluminium pill and both retaining rings.
-Rusted washer used as switch retaining ring.
-Emitter is off-center, because the centering ring being used is not for this reflector.
-Only draws 2.2A, but all 8 chips are present.
-Driver spring is the worst I’ve seen, looks like the spring from a pen (or worse).
Pros:
-Inexpensive!
-H.A. is well done.
-Switch is a small orange Omtem, switch assembly feels good and makes this S2+ much more usable.
It looks like GB is shipping out mixed batches of convoy S2+ with two grades of quality.

Despite all the above I think this S2+ is still a decent light for the price. For those (myself included) who mod every light they get there is no major issues, I actually prefer aluminium pill than brass. I plan to make this into a Triple nichia 219C 90+ CRI when it’s released.
But if you’re buying this flashlight to use it as-is, I think you should contact GB first to make sure you receive the better version.

What is the thing that looks like a rusted washer? ….It’s a rusted washer isn’t it? 
How is the the quality of the actual body seem? Reflector? Maybe they are buying convoy shells and adding all the internals. ~ edit~ 100% fake. Pics post #200
It feels good overall, a bit lighter than my old S2, H.A. is well done with no imperfections, but laser engraving is weak. Threads are smooth even without any lube. Reflector is ok but I have spare S2+ reflectors ordered directly from Simon and they have stronger OP finish, not a big deal.
I cannot describe how bad the spring is. I wonder how much did they save by producing this crap flimsy spring compared to the normal one, 0.02 RMB maybe?
Yeah that’s a rusted washer, it’s not even aluminium but a common washer that just happen to fit in there. “If it fits it works” -chinse proverb
It’s cost-saving efforts like this which motivate me to buy pretty much everything either direct from the OEM (Simon / Convoy in this case) or from RMM (who makes sure to only get the good stuff). I’d much rather pay a little extra and know I’m getting the right version of a product.
However, I do still try to keep spare parts around, like good springs, in case a stock item is sub-par or in case I break something. Like, I tried using a relatively weak driver spring on a FET triple and it melted in half, shorted, and unsoldered itself. Oops. Fortunately I got it turned off and taken apart quickly enough to avoid damaging anything except the spring. Spare parts to the rescue!
The reflector in the “good S2+” has a stronger OP finish, and comes with a GITD vs black o-ring in the cheap version.
Unless someone has one of each quality of S2+ we can’t know for sure if the light is entirely different or just the guts. There is a chance that these S2+ are not even from convoy!!
Simon said there were counterfeit Convoys out there. I just never expected Gearbeast to have them. And now we got the fake XPL lights out there too.
Forget what I said about all 4 from GB being genuine. The last 2 were fakes, more info when I get home.
BTW mine came with a generic cheap box with the date “03/06/15” (d/m/y) on it, and that’s not the order date. So that might mean something?
I modded mine by just reflowing a dedomed V5 1A on the stock mcpcb and a sanded down xp->xm centering ring, and I have to say it can throw for the size! Can’t wait to see what it can do with an LD-2, rear spring mod, XP-L HI on noctigon and AR glass.

That doesn’t sound good. - Convoy sends theirs out in an apx 150mmx75mmx25mm white box, with “Convoy” printed on top in silver letters. - This was from Gearbest, and ordered 5/15/15.
I’m very satisfied, but mine is genuine… Had I got one like you guys I would be Pissed!
I currently have a Convoy L4 coming from Gearbest, and it’s killing me waiting to see what I’m gonna get:-(

Yeah exactly that one! with the same date and all! I was wrong on that detail it’s actually yy/mm/dd.
Here’s an GENUINE CONVOY S2+ box. Notice the date is earlier: 22/05/15 vs 03/06/15 in the fakes. Since the stickers have the same format I can only assume it’s most likely the stocking date from GB. Convoy wouldn’t put a sticker right on top of their logo. I already have an ongoing paypal dispute with gearbest, and this one will follow right up.
The two real ones were ordered from Gearbest on May 11, the fake ones were ordered from Gearbest on June 13.

It looks like nearly everything changed except perhaps the reflector. Even the shape of the host and the way it was knurled and anodized changed.
