My wife is staying at her friends house overnight, boy am I going to have fun!

Its extremely windy around here today, grey skies, garbage cans, cardboard and recycle bins are blowing around the neighbourhood, the black hole from the lumen overload is beginning :open_mouth:

Well - that’s just par for the course, my friend. We’re all fanatics, in most people’s eyes - until they find themselves in a power outage, or some other situation, where they have no light, and wish they had something.

Then, we’re heroes.

Go figure :expressionless:

Until power is restored

That is really great! Love the lights around the house. :D

Texas Shooter mentioned putting a bright light on a quad. Check out this video! THe guy mounted 100W of LED lights under a quadcopter and MAN does it ever look like a UFO flying around and really lights up everything under it. Some great photos he took using the quad as the light source are in the video. Really neat stuff. I can't wait to try some of it on my own stuff.

That’s some serious bulbage!! WANT!!

Is she home yet? The wife that is.

HAHAHAAHAHA!!!

man I wish I were you :stuck_out_tongue:

Extremely interesting thread as always

I love it. I am down for some home lego’ing. Nice house you have there too.

You know, those first 6 adapters I got?
They’re gone. I used 3 and the friend that ordered the other 3 with me took his. Now I don’t have any to play with.:_(

BUT, I got more!
My friend wanted another 6 so I ordered another 10. Trouble is, everybody that sees these adapters, wants them.
So I put a third order in for even more. This time I ordered some of the 2 and 3 and 4 way adapters too.

Anyway, previously I was wimping about with 810 lumen bulbs.
How about I stop screwing around and use some seriously bright ones?
These babies are 4200 Lumens each.

And they fit, but just barely.

Trouble is, I only have 5. :frowning:
Here’s a wimpy 810 Lumen Cree on top for size comparison. 7 of these Monster CFL’s would be 30,000 lumen.

If I get the other 2 and try it, it could be dangerous. You know like they say “don’t try this at home” :open_mouth:

I know what!, I’ll go over and do it at a friends house.

:cowboy_hat_face: <—— welding goggles! Have you opened any up to MOD them as in thicker wire? lol Ya think the 4200lumen CFLs get hot?

Good call.
They get hot, that’s for sure. Each one draws 65 Watts and there is a sticker on the bottom of the adapter that warns each socket is only good for 25W each of LED lighting.
So yeah, things could get dangerous, that’s why I won’t be doing this at home.

My garage has 9 recessed PAR38 fixtures with 1400 lumen, 4400K bulbs in them… no dingy car-shack for me…

My kitchen also has over 10,000 lumens in it… most coming from 95CRI Sylvania PAR20 bulbs. Makes the roaches blink…

I remember a thread like that a while back. I recall the guy cleaning up after the party and found a bottle of “booty bleach”. Just searching those two words made finding the thread easy.
” Party planning. Opinions,please.“:Party planning. Opinions,please.

you didn’t get those for a penny each, did you?

It looks like one of those compact * cough * fluorescent lamps has been used a lot (see the yellowing on top of the base?) One or two others look like they have been used quite a bit too.

I remember looking at those huge bulbs in the store. They used to have a metal shield on top of the base to protect it from the monster spiral tube. But the newer ones don’t have that and just have the bare plastic just like any ol’ cfl.

I’ve got one of these in my garage. Since I put it in about 3 years ago I’ve never had a dark area that needed more light. Great bulbs much larger than you think until you get your hands on one.

Hey dchomak how bout you try to make something like this?
http://www.bigclive.com/hamster.htm

YES!
’tis a manly thing you know.

No, but I did get them on sale.

You are right! And you have an attention for detail.
Let’s see, I got 3 of the original adapters of the first 6,and………. there are 3 used giant CFL’s………
You think that is just a coincidence? (the 2 that are new are spares)

That’s what I was using them for too. Tremendous amount of light! But you being from Texas wouldn’t notice the problem with cold weather startup with these things. I was lucky to get those Cree bulbs for 97 cents each. Makes converting over a no brainer. $8 for the 7 way adapter and $7 to fill it is a little cheaper than the giant CFL ($16)
But, like you, I was more than satisfied with the performance! They are awesome bulbs!

Here it is 8 months later and I am still finding uses for this gizmo. I found this old lamp on the side of the road and I thought, there is my new work light. There it is with no shade and the lamp socket broken and hanging out.

So what I did was mount a shallow metal round box on top and intall an outdoor round cover with an adjustable spot light holder.I used a 1/4-20 screw and thumb wheel so that it would be adjustable.

not much of a work light you say?

Well, how about now?

wow… this is really cool, on several levels.

for ONE? i used to have double 4 foot flourescent “garage lights” in 8 out of the 12 rooms in my house. They were marked down at LOWES really cheap on clearance? i bought one for every room i used at the time… not the whole house is heated in winter, and, i got tired of changing 4 foot bulbs, so… i simply plopped in a “work box” in the middle of every ceiling and put old fashioned pull chain ceramic e-27 bases in… incan originally, but…

i kicked over to TWISTY lights (CFL…) when they got affordable. The problem with TWISTYS is? most of them dont REALLY last 10 or 15 years like they say… plus? i have smelled “overheat” and went and found a twisty bulb almost melted. The bases electronics poop out. I dont know if maybe the twistys (CFL) are made to be installed in a “lamp” upright to disperse heat or what.

as LED bulbs are coming down in price during sales, i will be kicking over to LED bulbs soon…

that “7 in 1” converter? is JUST the right budget item to turn my single bulb ceramic bases in every room, into a budget friendly “LED light fixture”

==

my mom gave me a “LED bulb” back when they were still really expensive… that danged thing is my “front porch” light, and it has been on CONTINUOUSLY for “many years” now. I didnt even REALIZE for a couple years itwas getting the “service life test”, and i have forgotten how many years it has been running 24-7…

when i realized THAT, and being on here of course, gave me the idea to look for a “budget friendly” LED fixtures to replace my ceramic bases…

this looks like JUST the solution, thanks! (i have a gigantic old “guy house”, and i refuse to spend 80 dollars on a simple LED light fixture, lol)
