I am very tempted but I have yet to sort out my fake Red S2+ with Gearbest properly yet (they want photos). I can hardly blame Simon for this but as much as I like the idea of them, the S2+ has become tainted which is ridiculous I know but that’s life I guess.

I respectfully disagree. The only thing that should come of this in my opinion is that you cross off a distributor that has been found untrustworthy. It’s shocking that that would ask you to provide pictures when they know they’ve been selling counterfeit goods. Gearbest is the only one that’s been tainted here and in my opinion should be avoided at all costs. Honestly I’m shocked that anyone here still buys from them. What you have is not a red S2+ so why would it taint Simon’s excellent product? If I buy a Rolex out of the trunk of someone’s car and it doesn’t live up to Rolex quality standards does that taint Rolex? Of course not. It just means there are scam artists out there and you have to be cautious if you buy from sellers with a sketchy reputation. Simon has an excellent reputation that he has earned. He has also stated that Gearbest told him they “realized” they were selling fakes and will not sell anymore and that if he finds out they have been he will no longer supply them any lights and will post here on BLF warning us not to buy from them. Just buy from him and you have a rock solid guarantee.

I’m afraid it is not possible to do bright colors in true HA III. The thickness of real HA III causes it to be darker. Medium gray, dark gray, dark olive, charcoal, black. You can add colors but they would be combined with the HA III base gray or olive color. Anyone showing bright colors that they claim to be true HA III is either lying or themselves were lied to by the anodizer.

I sent Simon an email asking about this after seeing that question so we’ll see what he say’s but I imagine Halo is correct. That said, the anodizing on all my Convoy lights has help up very well. The red S2+ has been bouncing around my wife’s purse with keys, change and whatever else for months and I don’t see a single scuff on it. I literally just pulled it out to check and it looks like new.

You can do type II anodizing that is pretty hard and still better then most other flashlights. There is a range within type II.

sorry but isnt it strobe/blinkies can be hidden—turn off after blink on low mode? Why do i have to choose my customization option when ordering?

You don’t need to change this, as you say, S2+ comes with to groups, activating using it on low to it blinks, then turn off, then turn on, and you have the second group.
Still that’s 10% - 40% and 100%, so if you want lower low, or lower mid, he can custom made this for you.
The same with option 3 and 4. But option 1 and 2 is on every light, still, its brighter then what he offer to custom made.

i think they've used PWM in every convoy lights. because i can hear buzzing sound on low and med mode on my red S2+.

Probably, but it might be a while. I asked Simon about that yesterday but I don’t have a reply yet. He’s exactly 12 hours different from my time zone so communicating is delayed unless I stay up reeeally late and I’m getting too old for that. I’ll add the information as soon as Simon confirms.

Yes, it uses 4.5 kHz PWM.

This is fast enough that most people generally won’t notice it, but you might hear a tone while the light is in medium mode.

Really cheap lights and a lot of car tail lights tend to use ~150 Hz, while high-end brands often use 4.5 kHz or non-PWM current-controlled output. The 19 kHz speed we use on BLF is generally only available in custom lights or qlite drivers.

I wonder if it would be feasible for Simon to start selling lights with BLF-sourced firmware. It might be awkward since he doesn’t actually make the drivers, but it would be really cool to have better firmware options.

This depends, of course, on whether the firmware authors are okay with someone else selling their code. And the availability of good general-purpose firmwares. But I like the idea, at least. The stock code on nanjg drivers is a bit dated now.
