UF-1405 modded (update: beamshots added)

i always have wanted to mod a good zoomie to add to my collection, so i ordered a UF-1405 from fasttech and yesterday it came in.

i started of with dedoming a XM-L2 U3 1A on a Noctigon in gasoline.
Let it sit over night and when i came back the dome was still barely hanning on the led. A small tap on the back and it popped off.

the gasoline was not so friendly for the plastic container i used. It melted the container but it still did the job.

after that was done i started to take appart the light. the reverse threads on the pill tricked me a bit, but the pill came lose pretty easily.

the led-board on the other hand was glued in pretty bad and was a pain in the butt to get lose. Some tapping from the backside with a screwdriver was needed and the glue had to give up.

Then is was the drivers turn for an upgrade. I added a R200 resistor on top of the R120.

i also chanced te stock wires with some 22AWG silicon wires and solded them to the Noctigon board.

some Actic Silver 5 was added under the star and the pill was good to go!

put everything back together and done!

the light now pulls 1.65A the the tail, this means about 3Amps at the XM-L2. a great upgrade from the 0.85A stock at the tail.

i don’t have a lux meter but to put some number on it, the led should put out about 900-1000 lumen now its dedomed. This means about 800 OTF lumen when not zoomed and im guessing 500-600 lumen when zoomed in.

i will add some beamshots when it gets dark tonight.
EDIT: beamshots are in.

stock zoomed out VS modded zoomed out

stock zoomed in VS modded zoomed in

I posted something, guess it didn’t show up before I shut off my tablet’s WiFi.

But pretty neat mod! How many amps did it pull before the mod?

stock it did about 0.85A on high at the tail so maybe 1.5A-1.6A at the led.

That looks like a very nice and clean update. It really throws around 300kcd now!

and yours came out nice clean and no nonsense

nice mod!

i did quite the same but used a xp-g2

that must be one hell of a white laser!

1405 gone M4D

tell me…

Nice upgrade. Any focusing problems after adding the Noctigon? I believe they are thicker than the stock star.

i used a thick copper wire (blue one) to lift the lens.

the bezel does not close - but hey! it throws

Nice mod dentillozie. Thanks for sharing.

im not having any problem. i think dedomeing the led compensated for the thicker board. i even have to zoom out a tiny bit to get it to focus just right.

looks great man!

it sure is a thrower. it shoots light down a well lit street(about 400m) without a problem.

Looks good. Those are very similar results to mine. I soldered an R220 over the top of the stock R120 and measured right at three amps to the LED. By that time I had switched to an XP-G2 on Noctigon though. I’ll be testing it’s throw tonight.
