Massdrop Deal Alert & Discussion Thread

Another long waiting.

You must log with that link but not with this: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/maratac-copper-aaa-flashlight?mode=guest_open

Not sure how great a deal this is but Massdrop has the Armytek Wizard Pro v2 Headlamp in cool white for $84.99 if they get 10 commitments and $79.99 if they get 20.

I hate how Massdrop makes you sign in so I tried antiparanoico’s trick with the guest link and hope it works.

OMG, that thing is beautiful! I’m so tempted…

Disclaimer: model not included

Jetbeam C8 for $34.99 JETBeam C8 Flashlight | Drop

$32.99 if 20+ join.

That seems like a pretty good price since it includes an 18650 battery and is USB in-flashlight rechargeable.

Indeed! $54 + shipping typical. A lot of similarly-priced lights don’t include the battery.

I have the same light at home and I purchased it at full retail price.
At $32.99, it’s a good buy for a quality and solid light, with free battery to boot

News: No intl shipping of knives from Massdrop for now.

The insane paranoia about firearms is spreading to knives. Eventually, it’ll probably spread to “assault flashlights” (anything over 100 lumens or with a strobe).

WTF is there even a term like that? LOL

I wouldn’t characterze it as “paranoia”.
The Int’l Laws about knife possession are hugely varied, and Massdrop likely
doesn’t want the liability.
Sounds reasonable to me.

I’m not referring to Massdrop’s decision, but to the reason they’re having to do it.

My maratac copper aaa has been shipped!! way before the original ship date 24/9.

I got my copper AAA. The finish is excellent. The tint is too cool for my taste. If you remove the clip, it will scratch the light. I hope they release the copper 16340 on massdrop too.

Does anyone know if it takes 10440?

I wouldn’t risk it:

A note from the legal department: We do not recommend the use of 10440 rechargeable batteries with this flashlight. It is designed to use a off the shelf alkaline, lithium, NiMH or Nicad AAA batteries. We do not recommend use of higher voltage batteries.

I ignored that and it worked excellent on 10440 batteries. My version is two years old so they could have changed the driver, but in any AAA light I tried a 10440 it never failed.

Maratac CR123 available.

Received my Maratac copper AAA today and the quality is excellent! I had a AAA Al a couple years ago but this one sure feels better specially at the threads. Ran it for 15 minuted in Med with a 10440 no problem, at high I think it puts out about 400 lumens. It will go in my keychain from now on.

Two interesting details:
-It came in a vacuum sealed bag to keep it shiny. Very nice touch!
-Pocket clip came installed, but upon removing it the body got scratched a little (soft nature of copper).

I wanted to do a FET driver swap but I think the stock driver is not bad at all with li-ion. Might do a LED swap for XP-L HI and replace that GITD o-ring for a black one.
