- The Fake-Cree LED Awareness Thread - The new "low" in Budget lights.

is there any HJK who can do a thorogh testig on these fakes ?

Hi guys!
Here’s my video unboxing of the flashlight with a fake CREE XM-L2:

Both leds has the same size, but just on the photo it seems different.

That’s odd… According to the LB page and the pictures (posted also at #1 here) the counterfeit XM-L2 called “XM series” should have a silverish top, too. With the green base, it’s quite obvious to spot as a fake. I’m still waiting for pictures of confirmed counterfeits of XM-L2, XP-G2 and XP-G…
At least, many of these LEDs sit on MCPCBs with “LB”/Latticebright or the LB logo printed on. But I’ve checked all my cheaper lights and found only fake XP-E and XM-L. The ones with XM-L2/XP-G2 look ok. The question is: are they harder to distinguish or not that common in the wild (yet)?

Besides of the green base look at the direction of the dots and it’s quantity.

I think the pattern is the same, it’s just that the dome has a more textured finish on the bottom one which obscures the dots.

nice video. there are obvious differences on those LEDs, ( the ordered XM-L2 and what you actually received.

Can anyone confirm if this is real or fake?

Bought this from wholeup.
Thank you

judging by the smooth substrate coating, the square pads beneath the bond wires it looks like a LB LED. (fake LED) it the tint & output seems to be more blueish & harsher then its likely a fake.
EDIT: - I am noticing an unusual non-consistient edge to the phosphor coating over the die on that one too, adding to the lower quality control of the fake Crees.

Other than having a hollow pill, this Tmart C8 has a fake Cree.

Recently I had received another flashlight with counterfeit CREE XM-L2 LED. This time it was a bicycle headlights. So be careful with chinese stores!

Do you have a close up bigger photo of that unknown LED? it almost looks like a fake 3535 type emitter. ( much smaller than a real XM-L

It looks the would-be XP-L led that popped up in the recent SRK clones everywhere. I tested it here (it comes after the XP-L Hi test): https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/35024

DBSAR, here it is:

The white square has sides of 3,5 mm.

djozz, yes - my led is the same as yours!

Indeed it does. And great test and info on the fake xpl too. It shoes how bad they are when it comes to efficiency & performance compared to Cree emitters.

I’ve checked the New Arrivals @ DX (http://www.dx.com/new-arrivals?cate=1307) and all flashlights have no mention of “CREE” neither in the headline nor in the description. Eg. it says “Emitter Brand: Others” or “Emitter Brand: N/A”. Some examples:

Since there is no fake xhp-50 ? at least this one should be a CREE. But those “XM-L T6” / “XM-L2 T6” or “XP-E Q5” could be LatticeBright or else.
Some of those lights aren’t that cheap, so there is the chance that all have CREE’s nevertheless.
I wonder what’s behind the decision of DX to avoid naming the emitter brand…

Interesting.
looks like they are beginning to hear us and our discovery of these fake LEDs, but i do notice they are still using the Cree LED type names or part of them, ( XM-L , T6, L2, etc.

It’s funny to see that DX is actually selling Lightcastle branded product.

That is funny actually :stuck_out_tongue:

As long as they don’t name a Lattice bright as a “cree” emitter, I am fine with whatever name or no name they assign to the emitter….

what about this ? seller says its original cree not copy/replica/imitation/fake.
