Olight S15R AA/14500 XM-L2 rechargeable flashlight review

Thanks Veer for the thorough review.

Just got mine, bought it w/ the intention of giving it away but like it enuf that I’m having separation anxiety :-).

Thanks, folks, for the warm welcome :D!

Now, regarding raised questions:

- I have not tried to take apart its tailcap to see whether charging will work without magnet. However, magnetic base helps alot to keep the light on the pad and centered, if I wouldnt know that S15 also had magnet in its base, I would guess that the main intention here was to have a magnet to fixate the light securely on the charging pad.

- Johnny, that sounded wrong, like you've got only flashlight in your pants for years lol

- Woody, Ive been thinking about upgrading one of mine with neutral XP-G2 or similar to have more throw, to me the overall output currently is decent, but I wouldnt mind of having more throw. Then again, for those tasks Manker T01 could be just close to perfect. More amps on output would probably overheat this tiny light too much, there isnt much of mass to shed the heat, I used fan after first 25 minutes when I noticed how hot the light became.

- Mhanlen, if do you decide to spend your time on review, Id be interested in runtime tests of yours, they are as real as they get ;)!

- Gunga, I see no reason why wouldnt it charge other lights batteries, it comes with normal 14500 and I have ordered Sanyo's UR for it.

- Siata94, for this price the whole package is very attractive, hence why I pulled the trigger on another one before I even received this one!

General question to those who do reviews and those who read them - is it OK to post direct link to the place where I bought it regardless of current price?

I dont want to come off as a shill considering that all of my recent purchases(all but two order, that came from TinyWind) came from Gearbest, so it could be suspicious to some that all of these lazy reviews of mine will have GB's links in them :D!

Can - it wont, if you turn it on and then put on the pad, it will turn off.

Another thing - the charger wont always charge when connected to computers USB ports or to power bank - apparently it depends how much V/Amps said USB port can deliver.

It worked fine on my Xiaomi 10Ah powerbank - plug the charger and put the light on or do it before plugging into the power bank, because the bank will cut off the output power if no demand for power detected and bare charger isnt enough to start the juice flowing.

Thanks for the review. Always good to get people insights into what their opinions are of a flashlight.

A well known syndrome that I can only overcome if I have two examples of a torch in my clutches after I have given one away. :santa:

ah, being that’s a known medical condition, now I won’t feel so guilty if I keep it

great review on this and I got mine last week too. It was a great buy.
I don’t even use the charger pad, I still put it in my UM20/i4. Also, soft lock out is always a plus from Olight.

Mine still doesn’t show up on the tracking page.
I’m crossing my fingers

Mine arrived a couple of days ago and I love it. It is a great general duty light or back up light. I turns up anyt will be my EDC for a while (until my Olight S1 turns up anyway). I managed to snap my lanyard mind you when I was trying to pull it through the end cap hole via a bit of bent wire so I won’t try that method again! I have ordered another S15R as I think these will make a great Christmas present for not flashoholics.

Nice review. Got mine a week or so ago and I would say your review is spot on. I have noticed that it's a bit picky about setting the light on the charger (actually, the charger jumps up to it due to magnetic pull). For some reason, it doesn't seem to get a good electrical connection each time. I haven't tried to figure out what is wrong yet.

Does the indicator light on the charging base do anything when the light is fully charged?

EDIT: Fixed a bunch of typos above. I really need to proof read before posting.

Thanks!

Lits up green.

Base on mine is stable, no contact issues when placing light on, I always make sure that its placed correctly which is rather easy with its magnet - its either on or not, there is no middle position on mine ;)!

My order with red filter, extension tube and Sanyo 14500 has arrived to my country, will probably be delivered next week so will update review with some more pictures and observations then :)!

BTW, charged the light today again with its charger, voltage when fully charged at the battery was 4.25V with my UNI-T meter and 4.24V with cheap LCD voltmeter.
I thought that protection cirquit wont allow to charge that high? Or is it that both of my metering units have to calibrated?

This is the first review I have seen for the S15R so it was well worthwhile.I ordered mine 2 weeks ago , so still waiting.

perhaps a sliver to add to your review…

unfor I dropped it last night while walking the dog, it fell 2’ onto the sidewalk. To my surprise
the tail got dinged enough to wear off a chunk of the black anodizing.

oh well, it’s def a keeper now, can’t give it away like that

Looks like it benefited you :D!

I really dont believe all the hype that people mention about annodizing - it will scratch off, it will break off when dropped and so on, not sure why people keep on cultivating this myth of “indestructible” anno :D!
As soon as you start using new light, it will get wear and tear pretty quickly, unless you baby them with fibre gloves and store in peanut foam boxes.

Yes, it is more wear resistant than simple paint, but its not bulletproof and its certainly not drop proof either! Its not some plastic-rubber combo composite paint that will not break when misshaped.

My 0.02$

received mine today. Beautiful light/package. Amazing deal for some $22. Sure it ain’t the brightest. Would make great gifts, include a Ni-MH cell for them so no worries.

Hoo-yah!

Nice little review. I am also waiting for mine to arrive from that same special price at GB.

I also purchased SR15 as gift for my brother in law.
Flashlight + battery + charger for that price is excellent.

I got ripped off! ($24.

Anyways. Great review. I like mine. Like it a lot more after putting a Nichia 219B and 45 degree optic in there. Nice fat hot spot and super clean tint. The levels are a bit lower too which I prefer.

it will be a nicer light than the sk68's people are fond of gifting ..

I'm still waiting on mine ....Why am i always waiting when everyone else has already received their lights ?

Oh yeah ..cuz it took days of wrestling with whether or not to buy these .

the battery sells for $5 ...and the chargers on ebay are $13.

So you have to ask yourself ... is this light worth $5 ?

thats only $2 more than a sk68 .

A comparable light that sold really well was the SC01 Solarstorm for $12.95

for me the tough decision was .. how many to buy ?

Any way you look at it ..it's a deal

$3 battery / $10 charger = a $10 light .

$2 battery / $7 charger -> $14 light

5year waranty / 4 nice modes/moon mode/rechargable/extension option /. beats the life out of any solarstorm

if i didn't have a bazzillion lights already i'd buy a bunch of these .

My guess is people will be a little shocked how small these lights are . it almost looks like Olight knows this and tries to make the light look even bigger in the way they package the light .

looking forward to getting this one .

Does the charger have the problems people are complaining about on CPF? About the blinking red light and it not charging the light properly
