A heads up for Aussies when buying from BangGood---Would other vendors like to state their position regarding this?

I did not know but maybe others do, but if you set the price in AU$, BangGood charge you in Australian dollars, so no paypal exchange fees. That is really good of them.

I wish I knew this before, as I have been paying in US$, so costing me more for all of my 18650 flashlight purchases.

Not sure if this is the same for BLF members from other countries, but I would guess so.

Also, I am not sure if other vendors do the same.

Cheers guys.

I was going to start a thread when I got back to Melbourne asking which other companies do this. Perhaps we should combine threads?

Tinywind does NOT accept AU$, they’re system gets unhappy when you try.

Hi mapache,

Welcome to combine threads mate.
We need all the information out there for the community. Personally it has cost me and I bet others heaps of lost dollars to paypal.

Cheers.

mrwolf thanks for the information. I’ll make sure I use $AUD for my future purchases.

Hi Guys,
I just did a test buy with Gearbest and it seems that they only do $USD.

BLF member mapache, tried Tinywind and they do NOT accept AU$

G'Day,

I checked this about 2-3 times when buying from Banggood about 6-9 months ago, and found that usually PayPal offers a slightly better exchange rate.

And then when Banggood sent me to PayPal the price reverted to USD dollars anyway.

But my 2-3 samples are not necessarily a significant sample, and things may have changed since then.

Best Regards,

George

Habe you tried converting the exchange rate of the items? They might be increasing the exchange rate a bit so maybe they instead of paypal can cash in the exchange rate fees.

This is not only a heads up for Australians but for EU as well.

When I pulled the trigger for the bare A6 at Banggood a week ago, paying in EUR was about 20ct cheaper than paying in USD + paypal conversion. I only found out because I wanted to stay below a certain tax limit, which in USD did not work.

Intl-Outdoor offered paying in EUR as well, but there USD + conversion was lower. But last time I have checked that is 2 years ago, since then I always paid in USD. Time to have a closer look again.

I always pay in USD using 28 degree cc via paypal as this cc has excellent conversion rate(very close to XE rate) + no conversion fee + no annual fee. It’s annoyed that paypal doesn’t allow us to select CC as a default option so I just have to select this cc every time that I purchase from oversea.

Cheers.

Ok, just checked with XE Currency Converter 59.95 USD = 84.7346 AUD

Banggood 59.95 USD = AU$86.47

Paypal 59.95 USD = AU$88.45

A saving of AU$1.98

So yes Banggood seem to be dipping into the exchange rate with a take of AU$1.74

So still a saving, not as good, but better then nothing.

breinrules, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Hi vo_vo,

I did look into the 28 degree credit card, but the minimum amount on the CC is $6000 and I would not trust myself with that amount. :expressionless:

Hi mrwolf,
Just rang them up once you have the cc and ask them to reduce the limit to amount that you feel comfortable with. Mine is reduced to 1500 but be warned that once you reduce, it’s very hard to increase as they keep rejecting your increase request without giving you a full explanation.

Another alternative to 28 degrees is a Citibank Plus account. It’s a zero fee transaction account that comes with a visa card, has no international atm withdrawal fees or international purchase fees. Exchange rates are also very good.

I use my Citibank account for all purchases in USD/Euros, and I’ve saved hundreds till now.

All my recent purchases from banggood have been in Aust dollars, but Fastest and Gear worst always us dollars.

Thank for the info, i have Citibank plus as well but did not know that its Visa debit card has no international purchase fees. This debit card will be perfect for “not so sure” cc transaction.

It appears TinyDeal accept $AU. I haven’t placed an order with them to confirm it works though.
