Review: Brinyte B158 Aspheric Zooming Light. IPX-8, Solid Brass Pill with 17mm driver, 58,120cd!

Hope you'll fit new driver without too much sanding. It needs to be soldered.

Factory probably have some press toll for fitting driver but that cant good as good driver to pill soldering.

I don't see big issue with glued led. This type of flashlights needs to modded anyway. :)

I agree! I’d like to just get blank pills with the light, and I’ve put in another email about doing that. Brinyte is a bit reluctant it seems to do so, but I’ll keep this thread updated. I will also report back when I’ve modded the light. Should take a week or two to get my driver and then find some time to sit down and get the pill stripped.

Another entertaining and informative review. Keep to your current style; it is so nice to see a well thought out and professionally done video in the midst of so many "unboxing" clips.

Like many, I don't normally look much at zoomies but this one does seem nicely built. I'm trying to stop getting hooked into the group buys but I'd be interested if this one could be had with blank pills to kit out as we see fit.

Looking forward to an update on your modded version, especially with respect to how well this host transfers the heat of a hot-rod light engine.

I hear ya on the group buys. I think I’m on all of the BLF special lights right now. Yeah I’m curious to know what it does. I feel like it should handle it ok, I’m using the BLF driver and it seems to work fine on the A6. But I’d like to compare it to the Acebeam T20, which is by far the best thrower I have. But I also have to fix the emitter on that one first too. So much to do!

Are the pills available separately?

I’m working on making that happen. Don’t have any idea of pricing yet, but I’m working with gearbest and brinyte to do it. Normally they wouldn’t have been.

You Da Man!!

You and Tom Bodett, I guess you both leave the light on for us. Thank you so much for the hard work because your mini films are really fun (in a who gives a dam anyway) sort of way.

Oh FYI the CH10 you sent gifted to me has been gifted to a guy in the Czech Republic for him to “swap” the emitter on before he tears up his new(working) ch10 light he just ordered (who knows he might get both lights upgraded?).

You are really good guy,

Could you consider to do drop shipping to BLF members without gearbest and other sites. How?

If you'll have lets say 50 flashlights interest you can invest your money and arrange drop shipping with Brinyte(you must deal the price with free shipping cost with Brinyte, and you could also offer faster shipping options if someone wants that).

How to start? Easy...

Each member that obliged to buy flashlight will pay you via paypal, then you contact Brinyte and give them particular BLF member address and then they will ship the item and give you tracking number. Than you can forward tracking number to certain member that bought fl from you (you can simply do it by adding tracking info in your paypal acc)

Shipper is always responsible for package. That means if item got lost on the way Brinyte could reshipp order or do refund.

I really don't get why no one here wants to try this model. You'll earn more money(why not? ) than with stupid aff links :)

Interesting, but I don’t like the shape much, and 1 x 18650 seems too small for a 50 mm. lens. How thick is the lens, or what is the focal length?
Nice that there are large high quality zoomies available now.

So Brinyte doesn’t seem keen on being a shipping service. They mentioned several times working with someone to distribute the lights, which is why I had suggested Gear Best. I do not see Brinyte at Banggood, and Fast Tech has never seemed to like the whole group buy thing. They even suggested I might be the go between for the shipping. I do not have the time to do such a thing though. I have lot of time tied up in my Youtube channel and just life and work in general.

The shape is fine, I don’t find it awkward or odd. I personally don’t like the size of 2x 18650 lights in series, although many people don’t- but I get why some lights need this size. I don’t know how you’d determine the focal length of the light, sorry! The lens thickness is listed in the video though.

Bring the die into focus and remove the bezel and the lens and measure from the back of where the lens sits to the emitter.

34.75mm ± up to 3 mm. Sorry I don’t have an accurate method to measure distances at 2 different points at different depths inside the head. So I basically drew lines on rigid objects and measured those with calipers and added them together. My eyeballing those lines at a 45 degree angle will lead to depth perception variances. Hope this works though.

By the way the focusing is excellent. I can see the individual dots on the emitter at 15 feet away on the wall on low mode. It’s every bit as clear as a SK68s focusing ability. Perhaps a bit better.

That is about the same as I measure for the DX 50 mm. flashlight lens. I measured from the flat side near the focus. I don’t think that is exactly the measure that determines the spot size.

I beleave the Jax Z1 ar coated lens has the same diameter……don’t know about the focal length though?

BTW: 58Kcd stock = 110Kcd dedomed / swapped for dedomed XP G2 S2 = 176Kcd………@3A, so at 5A would potentially reach 225Kcd+ (same regioin as the Jax Z1)

That are rough calculations. It can be much more than that. My best 1503 UF does 270kcd with XPG2S4/FET.

This light could be in 250kcd territory.

But I am waiting for results from mhanlen. Did you mod it?

Still haven’t gotten my parts yet… It takes Richard a week or two to build the driver and then the post office has been unusually slow this week. It may be waiting at home today. I’ve been waiting on another package shipped last week by priority mail.

I know. I was being modest and cautious, although it was quite difficult for me……

I like the design and as we do have a lot of good high drain 18650 nowadays, this should make for a nice pocketable thrower.

Still waiting on those parts. Question…
That driver is in there good. It looks press fit… There’s no solder on the top. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I’m trying to put tweezers into the holes or lift the sides, and I’m getting nowhere. Should I just kill the original driver? Or am I overlooking something.

Just kill it if you have to.

1 or even 2 nails(you can dremel wedge part of nail) from emitter side, hold in bench-vise and hammer the nail from above... You can try that gentle of course but if it does not go gentle... Smack!

I hope you will not have to dremmel new driver to much. Or what I meant to say I hope that pill with press fit method did not shrink to 16mm, hope it can accept new driver easy.

Please keep us informed with your progress. :)
