Brand name LED alternative to MAGLITE Solitaire?

Hi - I was looking at the Walmart today and saw an awesome MAGLITE Solitaire AAA in purple, I really want to get it, but I read the package and its not even LED, lol. But its only $7.99...

And its power is like 2lumens...hmmm.

So can anyone please recommend a reasonably priced brand-name AAA light thats just like the MAGLITE Solitaire but with an LED...and with better reviews? (I checked the Solitare reviews on Amazon and they were not all that great...)

Is the Fenix E01 good - its about $15... Many thanks.

How about the CQG S1 ? ... and the review.

or itp a3 (purple, other colors with newer leds are pricier)

Beats the Mag all to bits.

This one looks very nice, i have ordered one (should be here at the end of next week):

But it is only in black, no colors...

+1. I love my A3, as do most others.

Honestly if you poke around at Wal-Mart you should find a 1xaaa Rayovac LED light for $3 or so. It's nothing spectacular but it several of orders magnitude more impressive than the solitaire.

They look similar to the Dorcy aaa Wal-Mart used to carry and that was somewhat popular as a cheapie light a few years back.

Edit: Found the Rayovac one on Amazon:

The E01 is not going to be super bright (in fact it will be similar to the Rayovac I mentioned above). It's strengths lie in being extremely rugged and having a long run time.

Thanks everyone for the info.

The itp a3 does look very nice, but it really bothers me that the lanyard is some little thing that sticks up in the middle that ruins it for me...

I will check out the Dorcy maybe I missed that one last time.

I don't think the Dorcy is actually made any longer. I just mentioned it as a point of reference as they are very similar and the Dorcy was well known at one point.

The one that is still being carried by Wal-Mart is made by Rayovac.

Sorry if I was confusing in the first post.

It's been a few months since I've been to Wal-Mart but there is typically a Rayovac display either near or at the end of the main flashlight section. The aaa light I am talking about is there (sometimes they have them near the check out area also).

It's not a world beater by any stretch but for $3 it is a 1xaaa light that is reliable and produces a lot more light than the Solitaire (which I would avoid at all costs).

The ITP/Olight is on another level completely...it IS a world beater for it's size & price. BTW Shining Beam has the older version of the A3 (single mode with XR-E Q5) on clearance for $15.75 right now.

A cheap quality light is the Fenix E01, this has proven to be a very solid and long lasting light.

The Fenix E05 is newer and considerable brighter, but also a single level.

For multi level the ITP E03 has proven to be a cheap and good light, but it is out of production.

The E03 is replaced with the i03, it has some differences (Check my review).

A more expensive light is the 4Sevens Preon, where it is possible to get a tail switch.

Here are all the lights:

For lights in black or steel/titanium, check my website. There is lot of pictures and comparisons between them.

I replaced my antique Solitaire with a black cat and never looked back.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions...after thinking about it for a while, Im probably going to order an OLight i3 EOS...(I just wish it had a clicky instead of the twist)

I could think about forever whats the best light to get but Id like to order something soon...

Can you guys please recommend me the best store to order an OLight i3 EOS from? I live in Canada.

If you want it in time for Christmas you should buy from Shiningbeam.com

RED

PURPLE

Hi JM - I didnt forget about your gecko paracord, I sent it about a week ago.

Can you recommend me a good vendor to buy an OLight i3 EOS? In your link I think its the older version with the nub on the end, I prefer the new kind with the clip, and the split ring to the side. Because I love to tail-stand anything I can, LOL.

Youre right though, I really hope I can get it before Christmas. Thanks again....

You can get the Maratec version if you want the end to be flat. If you want a tail clicky and can live with a single mode there is the Tank007 TK-701.
