AstroLux S1 (BLF A6 Mark 2) Quick review. Coming soon in Red and Blue!

We are consumers, that is why this forum is called “budget” first, because getting great lights for cheap and teaching each other how to do just that is what this forum is all about.

And as far a business partner that got erased……what are you talking about??

Eagle Eye lost this GB because they took forever to produce samples and when they finally did they weren’t up to spec on the driver, that wasn’t our mistake but theirs.

Astrolight is a brand for lights between Manker & banggood those are the only businesses that have invested in the development by producing samples to our spec for us, and then sold the lights at the spec we wanted. You do know this level of cooperation is unheard of before right? You should be thanking Neal(banggood) for making this happen like many of us are doing, and look forward to the future BLF/Banggood/Manker developed lights instead of trying to stir up trouble by insinuating that someone was taken advantage of here :expressionless:

If you don’t like Manker or Banggood then just don’t buy from them, simple as that

After copying quotes I get to the end and see that George did it for me. Thank you! :)

We had issues with the BLF A6, no question. Banggood did a great job standing behind things and getting corrections made. RemanG came up with the short tubes and ran with them - A FANTASTIC JOB! Not only did we get our DD driver and a custom UI by TK BUT thanks to RemanG we also have the addition of short tubes and NOT just for the BLF A6 but also the EE X6 and even the Convoy colored lights! The man deserves a case of beer ;)

What kind of beer ?

I vote for a case of Deschutes http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/

I vote for a box of this:

Thanks for the review, ReManG!

And wight is having his share too, his name is immortalised now that even non-BLF lights carry his name

I love this forum for the cooperation that goes on here. I thank everyone for the good words, but Neal at Banggood is the one that has been through the entire deal from Bugsy36’s initial inquiry, to the final tubes getting made.

I understand that some members here may feel some other members were shorted in some way during this, but I do not feel that way in any of my time spent here. I get that kind of frustration when I see coworkers that bought $30 lights at big box stores and see what they get out of them. That is frustrating as I know how much the light costs them for what they get. I tell them if they need another light to come to me and we will look for one online….

If some members feel they are owed something for their efforts, more power to them. I do not, and thats all I am going to say about this…

I agree the cooperation here is great. But for matters of business though it’s not good that nobody is in charge of that. It is a bit like a business with no management. While that is good fun, BLF wields a lot of buying power and therefor influence. I would be all for somebody steering this truck.

OK, your in charge…

Seriously, if you want to do something here, just start a thread.

I do think that your view of profit only being monetary is a bit narrow, but it is your view, so I am not telling you it is wrong…

If you want to monetize BLF, I would suggest checking with SB56637 as he is the administrator and this is his forum….

I wanna be the chrome trim on the tail fins. Dibs!
(snicker)

I don’t want anything to do with that or profit. I just think like the forum has rules of conduct, the projects should also have rules of conduct for the people you work with.

Forget the idea of a person, just have a few documents on hand for business dealings.

Nice and short review, gj on it and gb. Looks like the same round spacers used in the xpl meecos I got. Maybe I’ll bite down the road, have enough A6’s n waiting for my short tubes.

Black Friday Special!

I like having the “BLF Special Edition”, but if I were to gift one, I would get the Astrolux which is the complete package.

Borg. It’s the Borg. Too late ….

I’m getting antsy waiting for the BLF version to come back in stock. The last email said supposedly 11/26, but who knows. Maybe the Astrolux will ship faster.

KuoH

It’s the same light and right now it’s going for $31.95 USD, so it’s about the same price as the BLF when you add the shorty tube.

would be great if they tossed a nice 18650 in the box! And an 18350 too.

I agree with the notion that we have to accept the fact that the work done by this forum will live on after our involvement and with no expectation of any reward other than us knowing we are a small cog in the evolution of flashlights (which to me is cool enough). Having said that if Neal wants to offer us long term discounts on lights that have been developed by the BLF then I would certainly look favourably upon that too

A flash sale for BLF members only on the Astrolux 1 would be a nice gesture too!

+1

Thank you ReManG for the review and all of your efforts! This answered all of my questions about the Astrolux, a refined re-branded version of the BLF SE.

Personally I feel it’s good that they re-branded the A6. I would assume the BLF A6 eventually will no longer be produced, which to me makes sense, after all BLF is not a “brand name” of production flashlights, it should only be used on LIMITED RUNS of the occasional forum member/manufacture/supplier collaboration Special Edition flashlights.

-

To me a BLF SE labeled flashlight is much more “special” if it is not marketed as a mass produced continuous model with the BLF label, because in my eyes that would take away much of the meaning of BLF special edition, I like to think of the SE lights as also being Limited Edition because they have the BLF SE marking.

I would assume these (righteously) are the reasons the model was re-branded and had nothing to do with preventing BLF or its members from asking for a share of profits from future sales.

-

The win-win situation for both parties is they get free or low cost design development and we get our BLF specification SE flashlight (which is especially great for members here who are not “modders” to own a “hot rodded” flashlight for a budget price)

So I don’t have a problem with the continuation of those same Special Edition models being mass produced, as long as they’re re-branded without the BLF SE marking. The BLF SE labeled models we hold are the one-and-only originals.

OTOH if the owner of the forum wants to create a trademarked BLF flashlight brand that’s fine too! Hopefully the BLF label will not be used by unscrupulous manufactures on flashlights that are not actual BLF SE’s.

-

Another benefit resulting from this is the A6 driver being made available separately at a decent price. That and the evolution of the AstroLux S1 really shows the power of BLF to perpetuate the advancement of flashlight technology for the good of all.
