Do you still own any non LED powered lights?

I want to know what is your text?

4 D mag lite with leaked alkalines stuck in it …
A couple of stainless 2D lights i keep thinking of modding but the construction of the lights is so stinkin poor it really doesn’t make any sense at all …you’d have to have no life at all to do it . 3 or 4 plastic coleman lanterns to mod but will only do them if they can be done very cheaply .

I also have a same one ,but now ,I get it away!

Yeah my mom’s got one next to her pillow. She uses it to spot mosquitos at night…doesn’t even care for my LED torches…

I still keep my Surefire E2e that I bought in 2003.
In stock form it runs on incan with max output of 60 lumens, but most of the time I used the KL1 led head which only gives 30 lumens, which is good enough for checking diapers, as it can also run on 2x 16340 rechargeables, compared to the incan which can only run on primaries

I have some old plastic incans and toylights and a Walther tactical xenon whatever light. Runs on two cr123 and was 60lumen, 10 years ago I thought that is brighter than the sun lol……today even a small keychain light is dim if it has only 60lumen.

I really like the old metal flashlights. I sometimes thought about buying some of these old things. The only problem is that you can’t mod them without destroying the old things and that is a sin because there aren’t so many of them out there yet.

Werner;

Hardly a sin as there are currently almost 3000 ebay listings for used collectible flashlights and the majority look to be unmodified incandescent lights. Some dating back to pre WW2 it looks like.

I keep an ican minimag just in case I have to look into my wifes or pets eyes for first aid purposes. You don't want to do that with an LED.

Hoping I don't ever have a doctor or cop try to inspect my eyes with an LED light.

Also keep some HID's around. They still rock.

Actually I found my old brinkmann light from way back when. I remember it being very bright but run time was terrible so being the pack rat that I am, I stashed it in the closet. I think it lasted twenty min tops and looks like this one.

An Aladdin mantle-type kerosene lamp
Five or six various sized carbide caving lamps.
I think all the PR2 flashlights have Dorcydirect LED dropins in them.

I have a like-new angle head double d-cell camo light I purchased at clothing sales while serving as a biomed repair tech (35G) in the early 90s that I plan to evenually convert to led.

I’m curious why no LED light to check the eyes?

Only incan I have is a Mag85 (takes the WA1185 bulb) which I spent some amount on buying the bulbs, AA batteries, coated glass lens, bi-pin adapter, alu reflector and battery holder. Seems a shame to mod it to LED, but the OTF lumens is “only” about 800-1000, with ridiculous amounts of heat, whereas LED with the same runtime should blow it out of the water.

Protecting eyes during eye exams, the eye doctors say …

pardon the digression. There’s hazards with everything, of course, no argument there.

I don’t use my carbide lamps to check eyes either.
No blue light hazard, but it tends to make eyelashes evaporate and leaves big black smudges ….

Streamlight Strion. Xenon bulb. So not technically incan, ha. Still love it for personal reasons, as it was a gift from my dad. I think he paid $120 for it.
Awesome bit of kit back then. Came with a household and car charger. Redefines “warm” tint.

Every time I get it out I’m reminded of how bright I thought it was (compared to my Maglites etc.) at the time. Now my $15 Convoy C8s absolutely blow it away.

I would consider it incandescent, and i know what you mean, back in the day you needed expensive parts to get lots of light, today we can blow it away for pennies on the dollar (and its more reliable and durable to boot)

Yeah that makes sense, thanks. Basic cool white would be no good.
I was actually thinking of HCRI LED for use in the medical field (eyes, skin, internals)

You were right I ordered some old and used metal incans, I found a new in box seagull light lol…
I got one very used white elephant 3D today, will try to find out with what I can clean and polish these things…is this just metal or is it plated with chrom or so?

I once found a kind of wiki of all the old flashlights, can anyone help me find this again…?

Flashlight Museum
or
Old Flashlights

I got these by googling “Flashlight Museum” and there’s more from there. I still love the old lights too but use LED lights for their performance.

Phil

Yes, I have 3 incand 2D Maglite clones, will be replacing their bulbs with cheap Ebay LED dropins for 1.4$ each and later on maybe use as host one of them for 2D thrower.

Those cheap 1.4$ LED dropins are great to use with classic looking flashlights that can be had really cheap and run on D batteries for long runtimes, not overheating and not using those multiple crap 5mm LED’s that I cant stand!
