driver for 12v + ?

Hi guys i'm looking for a driver that can work up to 14v, i tried one from one of those 3-18v dropins but it just got very very hot in seconds and shut down.

any ideas ??

Just thought i would mention its for the car, i'm making some coming home lights that come on when you unlock the car.

i'll be driving an xml but dont want to drive it to hard so maybe 2.5 amps max

+1 high praise Kick ass dependable 24/7/365. I use these with my 3up stars 12v hoglights. Total control by adding a pot for dimming.
