TrustFire TR-801

Has anyone got any experience of this light. I know that Dx has 3 versions of this light.

And cr123 version. I'm thinking about buying it from ebay, but i'm worried.

I do not want to get a bad one, the ebay version have 3 has 3 modes, will this be brighter than to 1 and 5 mode versions? Also has the build quality got any better?

Has it got a real Q5? or is it a P4. Or should i give it a miss.

The main reason I like it's under $15 and the size.

From the images it looks like an EZ900 die which is some time after the P4 so is probably a Q bin of some sort.

Single mode lights have less to go wrong, 3 and 5 mode lights no real difference in quality that I've noticed. I'd not be bothered about the holster one way or another - you can always get one for around $2-3 later if you want one.

The light looks a lot like the Romisen RC-F4 with a fractionally wider tube to allow 18mm cells which the Romisen doesn't.

My personal choice for a small 18650 light which I am pretty sure is an R2 and not the Q3 that DX says it is, is the Aurora SH-032 3 mode. Pity one of those modes is a strobe. However, it is over $20 so isn't really in the same price bracket. I know I hate it when people on CPF go, "my $500 light does all that and does it better! You shouldn't even consider anything else"

Sorry

How are mode memory on the aurora's? It seems to be that the same company has similar characteristics on their lights. For example, the skyrays all have good mode circuitry.

Mode memory, comes on in last used mode at least on the SH-032/033/034 which I've just tried. The multi-mode SH0030 has a different take, it comes on in "not working" mode every time till you spend some time sorting it.

Did you read the comments by others @ DX? (including mine) Of the dozens of lights Ive purchased from DX, this is one of the very few I actually returned to them. Unless you're willing to mod it, Id pass. The emitter tints are just awful. Most of my AA lights are brighter. At one time, this was a great light... not any more.

Yes Flashpilot I have read the comments but I'm hoping that they have improved the light, it's got EZ900 die and GITD rings, and hopefully they have improved the driver etc, or is the wishful thinking?

Flashpilot does the reflector and pill screw into the light?

The real one that you have how bright is that?

For small perhaps this is better: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29096

or for a bit more maybe this xp-g:

This one seems to have issues with it as well on the DX forum, the Romisen is nice but to big.

I saw the EZ900 pic from djzinc (8.24.2010) and that is reassuring. Mine and many others had a horrible dim green tint in the output. It pulled 1.05A at the tailcap and got quite hot to the touch. As I recall, the pill and reflector screw into the bezel, not the body/tube. Although I dont have it yet, Id probably put my money on the UltraFire P10-R5 for a compact 18650 light.

Flashpilot I went for the Skyray S-A5 this has an xpe from ebay

It has 3 mode High - Low - strobe. It's bright.

I hope you enjoy your new light.

I have a TR-801. It arrived with a low quality P4 emitter. Removed it, and moded with an MC-E. I like it, small, lightweight, very bright with MC-E. It has a very good heat transfer to the body also.
