How low can it go? Akoray K-106 3-mode programmable

Hi guys,

It is possible that our custom 1xAA BLF flashlight could have a programmable driver. As I mentioned in another post, Eastward YJ is going to look at the Akoray K-106 3-mode programmable light to see what they can do. So, since many of us are interested in a moonlight mode for the BLF custom flashlight, the question naturally comes up: How low can an Akoray K-106 go?

I have been experimenting with mine, and it doesn't really go very low. Even when I set the lowest mode by half-clicking before the ramping cycle even starts, the lowest brightness I can achieve is almost identical to that of the Trustfire F20 on low. I read somewhere that this is approximately 6 lumens. Any other experiences or tips or hard numbers?

Thanks!

Apparently it can go very low, I remember reading on CPF that the way to do it was to use multimeter probes as they could be moved more rapidly and could get it down to the 1-2 lumen area. Not tried it myself though.

Hmm, 1 - 2 lumens would be nice. Unless I am doing something wrong, I don't think mine goes that low.

I'll give it a try tonight and see how low I can get it.

The trick is to remove the switch and use a multimeter set to current.

Get it into programming mode then as soon as the meter shows a current, break the circuit with the probes. I managed 2 lumens with a 14500 but I've not been able to replicate this. Got the lowest down to about 6 lumens with an NiMH, 8 with a 14500 though a bit more fiddling ought to be able to drop it a little lower than that.

It is a pain to line up the clip when it comes time to reinstall the switch.

If you time it just right , you can get it low ... Mine is1-2Lumen , but it was tricky to get it there ... Id sure hate to set the modes again ...

Id be happy with 5 lumen for moon mode ... 5-20-40-100% would work for me just fine ...
