Brinyte B158 mod thread

On the off chance they might see this thread you could consider deleting “this company sucks” if you actually want to do business with them.

I will if they will respond. But after trying to contact them with same questions with 2 different emails several times during week or two with no response they really deserve that epithet.

Their B158 is really good. I did not said that their flashlight is bad :)

Edit: They responded on 04.01.2016.

That light is more different than the B158 than it is the same, the only component that could be considered possibly the same as the B158 is the battery tube. The lens, head, tailcap, and pill are all very different, even if functionality is similar. Are you just guessing they’re made by Brinyte, or do you know for sure that they are?

I do like the idea of the 70mm lens, but the price is outrageous if compared directly to the B158.

KKW,

You did not get the point of this. Point was that same light can be done on different way.

This is ebay link is very popular light redone. But even you did not recognized it. :)

And you have it at home :)

Yes it could be redone. It would be simpler to machine a plain tube than with the lobes and tapped holes added but still the same multi thread zoom, seals, and head threads. You might have more success presenting them with numbers for a group buy than saying hey, make this for me and you’ll sell enough to make money.

I don’t think I missed your point, but that we’re trying to focus on different points. (though misunderstanding is very possible in short text based communication)

Unless the “redone” light is made by Brinyte it’s a moot point, because that’s who you’re contacting (we all know how common similar looking lights from different manufacturers is). If it is done by Brinyte, perhaps more patience is required before you get a response, I bet around Christmas and New Years is a bad time to expect quick communication.

I’m still suspecting 50pcs isn’t enough to get them to change the design at all though, based on their reluctance to sell hosts as part of the group buy. Had they been willing to sell hosts at $20 each I would have bought 30 hosts instead of 20 lights and 20 bare pills. I try not to complain about it, because I realize I have to deal with their business model, not what I wish it was.

Had no probs with communication from Brinyte. And I’ve got two batches of lights from them. I ordered two B158’s as test samples, and they kindly put my own logo on the lights, even for just two.

Back onto the topic of modding, I’m still waiting for my pills from Gearbest. Delivery seems slow, even for one of these sorts of places. :frowning:

I’m waiting on mine too, and I ordered them just a few days after they went live.

Shipped on 6/12/15 according to the email. DX and Fasttech are normally about 14 days….

4.1-ish A on a Samsung 30Q fresh from charger (also djozz fet driver).

I made a video to show that measuring the way I do (voltage measurement over a 0.01 Ohm sense resistor) gives some variation, when the (fat solide copper) wires are pushed down well, it is between 4.1 and 4.2A:

I use UNI-T UT210E clamp meter and very thick gage wire. Maybe it has higher readings than your dmm? If so that would mean that it draws about 4.1 as with your cell (HG2 and 30Q are almost same in performance), and about 3.6A with panasonic NCR PF... But I don't really think it reads wrong...

KKW,

I just wanted that you recognize that flashlight and you did not managed. It is UF 1504 ODM order.

BTW I got instant response from Brinyte (with email Mnhalen gave).

I figured you would. As far as my communications with them go, brinyte has probably the nicest customer service rep I’ve ever dealt with. No exaggeration at all.

I just received mine and i was quite amazed to see that the centering ring for the xml-2 led is the same Convoy uses in their flashlights, although it seems a bit thinner at the bottom, anyways this is a good thing because i have XPL centering rings from Simon on the way so they would help focusing that xpg-2 that is going in the B158.

Black is from B158, white is from Convoy.

Has anybody received some of the new XP-L centering rings to confirm they fit on the current C8 reflectors?

I prefer them for better heat sinking.

Ok - you guys put me to shame because I'm still ol'school with a DMM setup w/thick wires, measuring amps across the cell and end of battery tube .

I will do measurement again and will take pics. It really jumps high but it settles at lower A after 2-3 seconds. I will show result again when I fill up NCR PF.

I'm not too happy with the current jumping up and down in my measurement above, with the thick copper wires I do not get a good enough contact for a stable current.

Yes. I measured again with uni-t ut210E clamp meter.

LG HG2 (brown), Panasonic ncr PF (green). Both charged to 4.25V.

This clamp meter has a bit of jump than it settles on real readings. Silicone 12AWG high strand wire used with tinned ends(maybe I should leave exposed wire for better contact?)

So HG2 has 4.4A while NCR PF has 3.9A readings.

I will mention that this was taken with savage finger press on battery - and exposed aluminum at the end of flashlight tube. Since this meter has hold function my wife pressed it :)

Also if you will gently press you will get even lower readings than that. Interesting... Gentle press low A readings, savage press higher readings.

Maybe all that means that solid + - contact(firmly pressed battery inside flashlight) also has some influence on current draw? I don't know.

This stands to reason since contact area and total number of contact points will definitely affect the contact resistance. I would think that well mated surfaces would be more influential than just pressure alone.
