Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Oh boy, but in shear size, the X6 is bigger than an L2, but the L6 will be darn close to the X6 in size. But from the pics of the L6 in the OP if they match what will ship, there's lots of metal there but not as much finning as the X6 in the reflector base area, critical LED area.

Correct! Actually the X6 is massive in the head area, way heavier than the L2 and possibly the L6? I’ll find out? But lack of cooling fins not in the X6 more would be better but I can make this work. It also has the small area between head and reflector. I made pressed fit copper pills bored out the threads,.001” press. for more area and contact with the host. The new Maxtoch 32mm XHP70 boards are just kick ass too. It’s all about the design really, when all my X6’s are where I want them, I plan on potting the inside between head and reflector, with what Randy Brogden (PFlexPro) use’s Stycast Thermal Epoxy potting compound. I will try it out on one light first. It’s quite expensive but worth it to me if it makes and it should, a difference. It’s not all about light box readings and amp pulls with me, I actually use my lights and let other fellow hunters and trappers use my lights for real world testing, will it live? Randy Brogden,Dale and FP opened my eyes to a whole other avenue of modding. Making it LIVE!

I’m just going to throw this out there again just in case there is any confusion. It’s too late for design changes for the first release of the L6. To the best of my knowledge it is being built based on the CAD models I have posted in the OP. That’s not to say that I am in any way trying to discourage talk of design improvements I just don’t want people thinking they can be incorporated into the first release. I’m still waiting for a release date. There were far more complexities with this build than the L2 including Simon working with his Cree representative to try and source some tint options in the neutral range. I’m hoping to have some news to report soon.

Damn it, I said I was done buying lights… And the odds of me actually using this thing with any regularity are pretty slim. As evidence that I only use my convoy x3 when I’m trying to find my cat when he’s starting shit with a raccoon. Lol!

BUT, if Simon makes that light with “clear anodization”, it will look like a fricken light saber! I mean, how can you not buy one?

Only suggestion I have is does he have the ability to flash toykeepers firmware on the driver? I LOVE the ability to go forward and backwards on modes. The fx30 driver is regulated, right? So it could do a decent moon mode?

It's an e-switch, so my Narsil would work perfectly for fwd, bwd, programmable UI, etc. - quick click to lo, click/hold to hi, click/long hold to strobe, etc...

Do you maybe have a link to the product? Just want to make sure which you’re talking about

Stycast® Epoxy 2850-FT, Catalyst 9  Epoxy and Henkel Loctite STYCAST 2850FT Thermally Conductive Encapsulant Black 1 gal Pail

Stycast 2850 FT Black Epoxy - with catalyst 9 (1Kg Kit) UK/Europe only. Stycast 2850 FT Black Epoxy - with catalyst 9 (1Kg Kit)

Thanks KB

Does anyone have some more info on this driver? I cant find anything…

It occurred to me that there might be a simple solution to this. I’m still trying to find info on thermal conductivity but an Artclay product like the copper might be useful for creating an insert to fill the space.

Info at a random vendor site

Now that’s something new… I’ve never seen it before. The downside are the 20% shrink and it needs heat to cure.

The copprclay shrinks 20% but the artclay copper which can be fired using a torch shrinks 10%

posting to keep up with production, and so i know when i can place my order

Btw, dale, you talk too much.

You can’t even begin to imagine… if I had me a cup of Joe and a Lear like that to fly in, I’d be ecstatically jabbering over the entire US countryside! lol Being in the presence of such an aircraft would probably make me intolerable, even without the Joe. I’m a perpetual Toy’s-R-Us Kid.

Dale, I for one am glad we have the Tim Allen of Toys-R-Us kids to keep taking our lights to the next level. Keep talking away buddy.

Yourrid, I’m sorry but there is still no timeline for the L6. Simon and I just talked about this two days ago. I asked if he had an idea of the L6 release date and he replied that he does not. That’s the latest official news… :frowning:

HAHAHA Dale, J-Dub said it perfectly; you’re the Tim Allen of Toys-R-Us kids!

J-Dub, thanks for the info man. This is how I’m feeling
