next time there's a huge power outage ....

Boy are you ever gonna look like a genius .

A few years back we had a 13 day loss of electricity .

You couldn't buy a wick for a kerosene lamp ..I know ...I tried .

The shelves looked like a bomb had hit .. there were no batteries and nothing that emitted light

on the shelves at all ,,,,nada .

I had a friend thank me for gifting him a light after this last 2 day lights out event .

Will you be a hero next time ??

Do you have anyway alternate way of charging batteries ? wind ,sun ,water ??? pedal bike ?

I know it's wrong but somehow i'm looking forward to a power outage but we only get maybe once a year . I think i need a power generator or a back up heater now that winter is here and we use electric for heating.

When we have a power outage here , it's usually because of a hurricane . My wife probably has 100s of candles scattered everywhere and we enjoy the soft , natural light .

She still gets a light from me to read by , though .

Power outage? once every couple years...

We rarely have poweroutages here and normally it happens during the day. The last long outage I could remember is way back 2009. When it comes to flashlights, batteries and chargers I would say im over prepared.

I don't have a lot of batteries but I do have a somewhat decent supply of AAAs and a couple of 18650s and some CR123s in a drawer. And I just won a pair of RCR123a batteries so I should be ok in an power outage. As for recharging the 18650s, I have a power inverter for my car so I can plug the charger into that if need be as long as I have gas in my tank. I have 6 of them though so that should last me a while without needing to recharge them.

Since I won't need light during the day and I'll only need it for at most an hour or two at night, I probably have enough lights and batteries to last me about two or three weeks.

The last power outage that hit my area of Denmark was in ... You know what - I dont remember.

There was a big one that hit part of Sweden and part of Denmark in 2003 but that did not hit my area.

Soo I´ll i guess im not gonna be a hero because of that :-)

We lost power for 3 days this week and this emergency charger was a great thing to have along with 20 of reverendjims 18650s. This kept the cell phones going so we could stream movies at night so we didn't go insane from boardem. Also it kept my electric cigarettes charged. I also hooked my Accucell 6 up in my truck to charge some batteries and heated the house with a portable Kerosene heater since it was 20f at night..

Hey Boaz,

I remember that power outage but we were only out for 3 days. I guess I am lucky that my transformer is on the same line that feeds the town's waste treatment plant. We had friends that were out for almost 2 weeks. I am pretty well set. I have a 5KW gen set in the old motorhome and a 2.5KW portable genset, I try to keep about 20-30 gallons of gas on hand, 2 oil lamps and 2 gallons of oil, the coleman camp latern and 1 gallon of fuel, a 25,000 BTU kerosene heater and a 20gal barrel of kerosene, more candles than I can count (wife) and of course about a dozen LED flashlights and a big box of batteries. I don't count the 7 Maglites anymore.

I guess I am ready.

We still need to get together some time. Been insane busy lately for me.

I have enough flashlights and batteries(both nimh and li-on) to handle any short term power outage. I also have a couple of different types of Li-on powered cell phone chargers.

If I get to the point where I have to start charging my cells, I have chosen to go with 12VDC. Most of my chargers have 12VDC adapters and I can charge up my batteries and cell phones in any vehicle. My last resort would be my deep cell trolling motor battery in this Minnkota power center battery box http://www.amazon.com/MinnKota-Trolling-Motor-Power-Center/dp/B001PTHKMG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top. It has two cigarette lighter adapters with built-in circuit protection.

That should get me through most situations so far as flashlights and cellphones are concerned.

I guess if i where to take it to the next step, I would get some sort of solar panel set-up to keep the 12V deep cell battery topped off.

If it is not hunting season I have plenty of solar power. All total charge cap @ close to 80w or 6a+ with storage of over 12v250a. My hog lights are kick ass. My nimh and hobby charger will run on 12v. I have a 5500w generator for hurricane season. Used it for 11 days when Ike hit Texas.

Power outages?

There have been two here, totalling 35 minutes, since 1990!

Our power is reliable.

Out in the wilds, should I happen to be there, 30 gallons of kerosene and half a dozen Tilley lamps solve that one. And a ton or so of coal. And stoves to burn it in.

Since my car can't handle snow at all, I'd not be there if the roads didn't permit. And if they do and the snow hits, the gasoline in the car will keep batteries charged for a long time. I can get 45A from the alternator - a rectifier can be built from coal if need be. so I can get 13.8V at 45A for as long as the gasoline lasts. As long as I leave a couple of gallons free, I can get home once the roads permit.

Food will be a much bigger problem than light and power - even if it is dark for 17-19hr a day in winter here.

Besides I usually have enough charged cells for a month or so with me.

As long as the cell sites around there are working, power is no big deal.

A mile or so away I can get to a big generator and a landline phone - not to mention tractors and things like that which don't get stuck in snow.

When I was living in country, we had some power outages. Very short, a half an hour was long...

Now, when living more near to city, nothing... Powerlines go underground so thunder is not so dangerous to them I guess..

The doors always open and the beer is cold .

One week in our town just last week. I live in New England, there are still houses without power :-( Fortunately, we lost only for two days.

3rd world countries are heaven for flashaholics at nights
