WARNING: Cometa – read/fix BEFORE inserting battery

One CW please!

Thanks.

For some reason, I expected the LED would be mounted on a board that went all the way out to the edge of the pill.

KIL - I honestly do not know. The sample is not here yet. As soon as it does we will know. The original pic shows what appears to be a red noctigon. Chances are we will be looking at a white mcpcb (without noctigon branding) or a Maxtoch mcpcb.

That looks like a rough mock up, maybe one of the first samples. See that white, solid goop under the star? There's still the impression left from the 20mm stock aluminum star that was pried up and replaced. I imagine they won't be ripping apart built Z1's to make the cometa.

OP mentions arctic paste not glue too.

Hi,
this was the first sample (prototype v1 on review) in which a 16 mm MCPCB was mounted. Then with the driver upgrade (prototype V2) a 20 mm Noctigon board was placed in the pill.
As Bugsy says probably the final version will be equipped with a white copper MCPCB (without Noctigon brand)

Thanks for the explanation. Anything that bumps this thread up to the top is a plus.

  • Jax Z1 zooming host
  • Cree XP-L HI (neutral- or cool-white)
  • Wight's FET+1 driver
  • ToyKeeper's A6 software (with a longer period before step-down)
  • stock with gold-plated, double springs (no bypass needed)
  • 1x26650 or 1x18650 battery

I am excited about this one.

If XPL-HI is difficult to get for this GB, why not consider the XHP-50? Much more lumens too.

The only issue is that the driver will need to boost the voltage to power the higher voltage XHP50 with one cell. This plus the XHP50 LED may increase the price a bit…

It would need a completely different driver and UI setup. We do not have a boost driver.

It isn't impossible but that would set things back months to do it on a production level.

Individually modded though...a zener mod to this driver should work if someone purchased the extension tube and willing to forego LVP. I have never done that but there is a plan to look at it.

If Cyberescudo was OK with it...we could consider adding the XHP model with factory setup. That host would still be CPFi Comet but we may be able to secure a group buy discount although it will be more than the $45 for this Comet.

FYI...Cyberrescudo is running this. Our team is collaborating with CPFi.

ill take a 1a please

On second thought, an XHP50 would make it a completely different light. Maybe on the next GB…

I noticed the Jax with battery is almost 14 ounces - pretty heavy for a single-battery light made of aluminum. No wonder it can absorb the heat.

I am exaggerating of course but the wall the pill sits in might as well be 1 inch think. From the pics it looks thick as hell

I’m following this groupbuy with interest, just waiting for bugsy36s opinions on the sample light to decide as this would be my most expensive light so far. I’m surprised more people haven’t signed up yet though.

Hi, 1 X NW ,please.
Thanks.

I’m looking forward to that myself, bugsy36, any updates on the location of the sample?

I would like to be included for a cool white one, please, and thanks for the opportunity!

This Group buy need 500 participants to happen right?

Yes, for the discount and the added improvements. It is already halfway there so I do not see issue once we receive the samples.
