We have a plastic thingy with
Solar panel Ln top costs were $16,-
Crank in bottom
Shaped like those old fashion storm lanterns.
The light it produces is not warm but we used it camping and it sits next to the kitchen door
We have cranked it up once but the solar charging has provided light for about a year now when we needed it.
Is it possible to sacrifice the space of 1 cell for charging parts? Solar panel on top, crank at bottom? Maybe USB out port for cellphones.
To have that in a nice ALU housing would be very nice.
I was planning on just using a diffuser with a modded SRK but this is a much cooler project!
But as you go right now I am interested so put me on the list.
Oh yeah, just what I’m looking for. Count me in. I camp with the kids several weeks out of the year. If it could switch from white to red light like the Fenix CL25R can, that would be a big bonus in my book.
That’s a good question. This one here was one i had sitting around since last year unused or modded, it was a random 4-emitter one i won from ebay for 23 bucks. It had four XM-Ls on separate 16mm stars cemented to a aluminum plate that is roughly1/8” thick and threaded into the body right below the lens.
Actually i already modified a Roche F6 single-18650 with warm white XM-L, a Q-lite 105 with reduced number of 7135 chips to increase the run times, and built a special removable diffuser that converts in into a functional lantern much better than diffusers does. On medium-mode with a 3000mah cell it runs for 12 hours non stop, and puts out roughly 200 lumens, brighter than most store bought “crap” led full size lanterns. ( can take photos if wished)
