What did you mod today?

Popped in a dedomed xpg2 with a BLF a6 driver into a Jacob A60. I’m getting about 80kcd so I’m probably seeing a lot of resistance from the unbypassed tailcap spring (the retaining ring was unreliably threaded and basically jammed in there when I got it) and maybe some other reasons.

Anyway, it has a fantastic beam profile now (not all ringy like a stock a60), with an okay tint. So I’m happy.

Also made a spacer/partial dummy cell out of copper and dowel rod for my DST so I can use unprotected 30Q’s.

a real basic one put a xpl=hi and blf driver into roxane m6 26650
only draws 5.5a at the tailcap awesome throw type beam
might revist with bypasses and heavier wire see if I can crank another amp ?

Welcome to BLF, Christopher! that sounds like a great mod that you did

And it is good to hear that the ongoing G700 flashlight discussion on BLF makes Google direct people to here so they stop buying that overpriced crap. So here’s one for the search engine:

the G700 flashlight is a ripp off, overpriced crap!

Still having some spare QTC pills i decided to mod my Thrunite Ti4 Ti because the stock driver having no memory and always starting in low mode did not agree with my usage.

I stripped the driver bare and soldered the + wire through to a small copper disc to be filed for fine adjustment of the QTC which can be tricky to get right.
The head is stuffed with one of those thermal silicone cubes because i felt a bit lazy today.
Also added a trit and magnet in the tail.

Pocket Rocket.

I reckon output goes from –1 ramping up to well over 500 lumens with a twist of the head now
I did leave it on the table on full tilt for a few minutes too long in testing and it got so hot that it melted the wrap on the efest 10440, i also learned it can be dropped fast from a height of about 1.2m……

Also modded another Ti by swapping in a 3535 UV emitter, clip, ground off the keychain installed magnetic tail and ZWB2 UV filter.

Hey Dusty,

Your signature drove me crazy for awhile, trying to kill that bug on my screen :)!!

I finally got around to modding a dead COAST G10. This was one of the “free” ones from COAST, that died, and I’d been wanting to get it working again.

Here’s the assembly:

The head:

I used one of the DX AK007 drivers. This is basically a pill-less head. The driver has kind of stiff wires which are soldered to the emitter PCB:

That emitter PCB was one I salvaged out of a cheap light (the ones with the plastic pills with the “tophat” LEDs), and I ground it down to fit. I then soldered the wires from the driver through the holes, then bent the wires over, so they became the “pads” for the Nichia 119 emitter, which I “reflowed” onto the pads using a hot air gun.

And, then, it lights :)!!

Here’s the white wall beamshot, not great, but the light is pretty bright:

Here are some mods from the past week or so.

Surefire U2 XPH50

Low beam shot

High beam shot, No donut!

Surefire L1 bored body for 17670

Changed L1 from optic to reflector and torch XP-E for throw as requested

Custom glow ring

NovaTac 120T with XM-L2 U4 in copper

This thread is really working, I see many mods passing by.

Nice recovery, ohaya!

@CRX, the Ti has a 12mm lens, but I never saw a 12mm ZWB2 for sale: did you sand a bigger one smaller?

My mod for today: Thorfire TG06, XP-L Hi 3000K 80CRI on Noctigon soldered to pill, BLF A6 driver with 470Ohm bleeder over the C1 and spring replaced by an 1mm thick brass bit, lighted tailcap with three different blue tints, cyan/lightblue/deep blue (very attractive, does not show well on picture). The stock tail-parts were replaced by a small Omten on 16mm board (I re-used it from my X5, with the double spring, disengaged the tail-led), and Pilotdog68’s 6-led dumb lighted tailboard with 3x 5.6kOhm resistors. I used the stock tail retaining ring, but because the tail-assembly is just a bit shorter than stock, I had to put a 1.5mm thick brass washer under it to have it make contact with the body when the tailcap is screwed in.
On high (with dark purple Efest 14500) it puts out 700 lumen at start-up, 600 lumen after 30 seconds (20% less than my X5 with the same led, not really sure why). The led is not perfectly centered (can not adjust it, everything is fixed) but the beam is ok.

It is nice enough to become my EDC for a while  The tail leds are way too bright but I enjoy it too much to change that for the moment.

nitroz,

Wait! Do I see an Ultra battery coming out of that L1?

Yeah i posted more about what i did in your 2mm ZWB2 filter tested thread.

Djozz those blues look very nice. Where did you find all those shades? Adding an LTC to my TG06 is on my to-do list. I hadn’t before because they draw was too much for a 14500 (in my mind) but the new “ring” boards should be perfect.

Today I did my first-ever “resistor mod” on my Thorfire S70. It jumped from 4amps to 9amps at the tail. It’s a real show-stopper now.

I bought a bag with 100 0603 leds ‘blue mix’ from ebay. I had to try every led before use, it was some effort to sort out the ones with the right colour and brightness.

Hahaha Djozz… Click your link

Lmao.

Nice pics btw… I really need to get a few of 6x boards. Much better than just 1 or 2 imo.

Lol! Only for fitment. Ultras are junk! I have had them forever and never use them.

Zebralight SC63w - now with a better grip sleeve (taken from a LuxPro LP290 2xAA light)

Should someone save that as a quote?

I prepped a Maglite 2D for an H22A heatsink, mtg2, and a 5A MTNMAX driver. Changed the stock switch over to negative (thanks OL!). Glued the led on and glued the copper positive contact. Phew that was a lot of work.

Just have to pot and install the driver, solder some wires, and mess with that gigantic spring. I suppose I’ll need some killer 26650… Maybe 32650’s to power this beast.

Made grip ring and installed clip on Convoy M2. Tricked out Red Green style.

Thanks! The really nice thing about these G10s is that they have a forward clicky, which is really handy in a small light…
