Thorfire VG10 on sale again $9.99 at Amazon

Is it better than a olight s30 or equal to?

My thoughts exactly.

IMHO, the Olight S30 is far superior in many ways.

at 6x 3x the price it should
But what makes it so much better in your opinion?

For starters: Better interface, Very nice mode spacing, side button, no problem fitting protected/unprotected batteries, etc, etc

Thorfire are good, but no match (yet) for Olight.

Best Regards,

George

No issue fitting longer and thicker cells, some that do not fit a Convoy C8 fit the VG10 without a problem.

The forward clicking seems to be an issue for some, I like it other haye it.

Side switches are also personal I have found them easier to accidentally turn a light on and for that reason I do not carry them in a pocket or hanging on a clip inside my pocket.

As for spacing, the VG10 seems nicely spaced from moon, low med to high looks no extra mode is needed or like there is a gap between two modes or two modes too close to each other.

So it seems some things are really just subjective here, and well just as important

Thorfire lights are more or less built from an existing platform, much like when we buy a host and add driver/led. Olight in the other hand are built inside out, each component is made to work specifically in a certain model, and the flashlight is designed as a whole. A more dedicated R&D often results in an overall better product.

I have one already and I love it. The battery that comes with it is protected FYI.

At that price it will be hard not to justify buying another one!

Dang, my ThorFire collection keeps growing!

Thanks guys. I will pass for now. I have an s-30 and s2+. I suppose I don’t need it hahaha
I appreciate the help. I’m sure my wife will appreciate me not buying another light too

Olight’s have been a nightmare for me - glue and then more glue - what have they got to hide? I’m not impressed with Olight’s at all: mod unfriendly, thin cheap materials. This VG10 is more a classic over-built sort of light - lots of mass. Olight’s like the S30 are the extreme opposite.

Have the Thorfire VG10 and several Roche F8 but none are handy. Aren’t they the same light, just rebadged.

Here is a review I did on mine.

Tailcap readings start at 3:22 Teardown and stills of that start at 3:53. Beamshot stills at 6:28 and the outside shining around (cheap video camera) starts at around 7:10

Yes - there is nothing unique about the ThorFire lights. The ThorFire JM07 is/was the Shadow JM07. Better still, this UltraFire: lightscastle.com/product/ultrafire-sh-f8, commented on here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/20119. But still, the UltraFire was $23 when in stock.

For Olights, when a manufacturer consistently Loctite's the bezel on, this means you can't replace the LED for tint replacement or upgrading, or even if the glass if broken it can't be replaced. It's unserviceable by normal means, a throw-away design.

For $14.49 this light is a deal, IIRC the Roche F8 was about $21 on special. Too bad I’m not a prime member, $7 shipping kills the deal and I don’t want to buy 4 to get free shipping.

Mine is sweet!! matches my $10 JM07!

Got mine today. Very pleased. This and the jm07 were killer deals

Got mine a couple days ago, I’m looking at it as a host so seeing the threaded driver retaining ring instead of the expected pressed in version was a huge bonus. The addition of DD + 1 driver and XM-L2 3D should improve things.

Got mine today. It's just about identical to a Convoy M2 - probably this light came first though. Nice quality, excellent finish, no marks, nicks, or scratchs. Mine came with a holster, and spare parts including an extra AR lens -- nice!

In some ways I like this VG10 better than the M2 - SMO reflector, heavier SS on the bezel, adds the cigar grip. They are the same size, same design, same heat sink fins.

Whoa…threaded retaining ring for the driver? That’s awesome. The only thing I wish is that they went back to the smooth bezel. The current bezel causes faint rings in the beam.
