I have a one year old who’s starting to take a liking to flashlights like her old man. She just broke an old Inova X1 by smashing it into the ground a few times. I’m more upset that I don’t have another beater flashlight for her to play than the light being broken. Any recommendations for a relatively cheap single aa light that’s kid proof? Also, something that’s not too crazy bright would be nice.

the S2+ is very sturdy, check the tests you can find people dropping them, drivong over them by cars. And it has low voltage protection.

You might consider swapping the lens with a plastic one on whatever light you choose.
3*7135 is still 1A, which is more than 200 lumens ! It’s way too bright for a toddler !
I wouldn’t give a one year old child more lumens than a BLF 348…
Kids will shine in their eyes eventually which can cause eye damage. Plus we don’t really know if the anodizing contains lead or other toxins (i was actually thinking about this earlier today), and kids touch things and put the objects and their hands in their mouths. I think you should wait till she is a little older.
Also don’t buy a Pelican light
I have the ultrafire c3 and even on Eneloops and low, it’s too bright. That’s why the X1 was really so great. It barely kicked out 30 lumens so it never got too bright or too hot. I have the 3 chip S2, but it’s too bright even on low. Also, the multiple modes on it makes it harder to manage if she bumps or drops it.

When looking into the BLF348 on a simple cell that is in use for a while, even that seems too bright.
OP you do not have some old weak lights?
My Olight S15R is what convinced my nine month old to crawl a couple of months ago. She wouldn’t do it for toys but when I put moonlight mode on and put it on the rug she was straight after it!!!
My little kid has SK68 clone - still wasn’t able to break it. I paid for it about $2.
On regular AA also isn’t too bright to blind people, but strong enough to be usable.
I’ll buy him better light once he stop throwing things.

Or a two AA light modded with a 5mm led and diffuser film on the lens… Maybe you can find an old incandescent and mod it like that.
There are also these cheap AA LEDs with a simple 5mm strawhat led often there was police written on the side. Not very bright but also very low quality, I had a bunch which all had a smelling tailcapbutton…

+1 vote for the sk68. If you are lucky it is very tough and will be years of fun, and you can put your discarded batteries in it for low enough output.
I thought about it, but a lot of sharp edges and heaven forbid the bezel gets unscrewed just when it is in the mouth.
My son loved sharp edges when he was 1, feeling them in his mouth, he would have been fascinated by the sk68. Put some glue in the threads against unscrewing.
I agree with the SK68 clone suggestion: very cheap, use nearly-expended alkaline primaries and fix the unscrewing and lock it in flood problems with a little superglue.

I bought one a couple of years ago, and it stands up very well to kid-abuse.
Although it says 60 lumens; it’s not, it’s about 15 lumens on a AA battery. And although it says warm white LED; it’s not, it’s a standard cheap cool white.
But, it’s still a great 1-mode light. No small parts for a kid to swallow, and the tail cap screws on pretty tight so it won’t fall apart easily under abuse. Standard 1xAA battery, so you don’t have to worry about lithium-ion dangers. Big enough to hand-hold with ease. Despite being a cheap light, I’m surprised it has handled a fair amount of drops, etc. But if your kid loses it, no big deal.
I’m sure there are plenty like it. I just gave one example that I know is not too bright. It can be hard to buy a LED light that isn’t very bright nowadays, especially in the AA size or larger.
