Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Please put me on the list for one.

Thanks

I’m interested!

YEAH 171 interested. Meaning just at the start of this we are at a whopping 34% of the initial goal of 500
Thanks all!

Barry (Thorfire) is enthusiastic and willing to work with us.

Neal is enthusiastic and willing to work with us.

The current plan is to develop the light with Thorfire and sales and distribution are handled by Banggood.

Interested.

We are still open for suggestions for the best led for this light, what do you suggest?

I’d love some XHPs in there… but 6v/12v?

XHP50/70 or even XHP35 require a 2S2P or 4S battery compartment, and that will limit the modding possibilities of this light. One of the main reasons to want a good quality SRK-type light is because of the use as modding host. We will keep that goal in mind during the developement.

parallel cells.
XHPs from 3,7V no that probably is not going to work.

WTH add me to the list

Very interested in this light, please put me down

Cheers

Please count me in also. Sounds great. I need another flashlight! (not!)

This makes me very happy, both are really good people

It FEELS like a clever arrangement of the battery compartment should allow the light to ship 4P, but allow a modder to “cut here and here for 2S2P, there and there for 4S”. Having never seen an SRK in person, does the tail cap screw on separately or is the battery compartment once piece? Is there / could there be an insulating plastic cup in the bottom of the battery compartment that would be swapped or modified for different cell configurations? How does the front end of the ‘battery pack’ contact the driver? A PCB would allow reconfiguration by changing jumpers and inserting cells in a different orientation.

If the cells were held in a plastic carrier, 3 different carriers could be produced to provide the 3 different cell configurations…

Can someone post some good pictures of a disassembled SRK clone?

check this review, a lot of pics

you see the basic workings and also the weak points like the threads in this review.

Put me down for one please… thanks!

A solid battery carryer like from the TN36 would be nice for modding. But thats not the classic SRK design.
But please make such a battery carryer. Because the Light should be a good modding Platform too.
A Host version of the flashlight would be nice too. To change the battery configuration it would be enough to deliver with the host two sets of two PCBs to exchange them in the battery carryer for 6V or 12V LEDs.

OK so the idea is…. correct me f i am wrong

A hollow tube with a holder for 4 18650 cells.
default in parallel

But because it is a removeable holder, modders can make it series more easy without having to adapt anything else.
Right?

I think that’s the idea. But a holder is more parts so higher cost, more points of failure, more difficult cell loading, possible issues at high current (more contacts), etc. I’m not entirely certain I’d want all that if I have no use for it.

Ideally, you’d have a design where you just drop the cells in there for 4P setup but you can also insert/mod something to get other configurations.

Why not go series, no need for separate expensive carrier.

You can still run the XPL with the correct driver etc but you can also run the far better options for huge flood output (this should be default anyway ;))

series is a good project for modding
the posibiity to use either 1, 2, 3 or 4 cells in the safe parallel configuration is a key feature of the SRK and our Q8
