Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Hi there

I already use two flooder. Astrolux S2 and Jaxmann X1. Both have impressive long range qualities especially the X1. I am a hunter and noticed that in many situations there is the need for at least two different lights. The Astrolux S1 is great to lighten up the area directly in front of me. The Astrolux S2 seems to be a great midrange flooder. The X1 is great to check if a 100 m shot on a boar was succesfull.

My question is: How much more light can I expect from the Convoy L6?

There is no definitive answer. …yet! But I can say it’ll be A LOT MORE;)

Hey mate check out the reviews on the Thorfire S70 should be around the same output!

maybe you need some thing like the convoy C8?

But i don’t think this light will be suited to hunting its a bit big!

I’d say checking those reviews for comparison is a good indicator. The light design is similar enough that the beam profile should also be similar.
These lights are basically flooders on steroids… LOTS of steroids. That said, because they are deep reflector designs they do have some throw or maybe more accurate would be long-range flood? Your surroundings would dictate how useful it is at 100m. It will hit that distance with a ton of light but it may also be too much light if you’re trying to focus on one object and there are other objects around. If a lot of close objects were in your field of vision they’ll be lit up so brightly that it will make objects farther away harder to see. As far as hunting usefulness you could buy two, mount one on a tripod to blind your prey then use the other as a club.

Oh and while I don’t have a date commitment yet the price for the L6 will be set at $64.43 and as previously stated Simon will be giving BLF members 15% off that price. You just have to message him before you send payment and he’ll adjust the price for BLF members which brings it down to just about $55 which IMHO is a phenomenal price for a light like this. I’ll add this info to the OP as well.

Flashing animals while hunting with a rifle is prohibited in Germany… There are no objects in my line of view. It can sometimes happen that a boar for example can still run a distance away before they are dead. To have a powerful lamp for the search action seems to be a good idea for me. As the car is usually not far away I do not see a problem with the size or weight…

The X1 is already bright. I personally like to take the best option when it is affordable. So I enjoy to wait for the Convoy L6

Well being a XHP70 you should be looking at about 3 times the brightness of the X1 these XHP flashlight have so much brute power that they throw far even if not designed for it….

That is a very good price works out to be about $56 US dollars you really can not go wrong all that power for so cheap!

It’s been a few weeks so I thought I would stop in to check on progress.
What a good-looking light! It will be well worth the wait. I am PATIENTLY waiting with a GOOD attitude. No HOUNDING.

I am currently shopping for a good tripod and clubbing glove.

Dales patient explanations of English jargon brought back some pleasant memories.
The impatient music from a pack of “hot on the trail” Hounds is a pleasure to the ears. Whining is not.

Keep up the good work J-Dub. I’m in!

At $64.43 before discount this one looks mighty tempting !
So now I’m torn between the L6 and the Thorfire S70

Decisions, decisions, decisions…. :person_facepalming:

Why not both? lol i love the S70 its a great light but its not a go to flashlight mainly because of its size and weight unless you want to beat some one with it…

Was looking at the renderings again and noticed that the mcpcb looked like a normal sized one.
Didn’t really Want to search the whole thread but I know we have discussed it.
What size did he use?

Have done some modding on my S70 but it’s really hard to make the solderjoints small enough so it clears the reflector.
Hope that won’t be an issue with the L6.

That’s exactly what I was getting at. Thanks for expanding on that with better wording.

Oh and SteveBS I was joking. Anyone who would hunt wild boar with a club is a much braver man than I.
It’s illegal to use lights while rifle hunting here too (hence the club scenario) with a few exceptions like coyotes and a few other predator-pests and such laws vary from state to state. The L6 should be one heck of a search light for after the shot though.

Unfortunately by the time that was pointed out it was too late to change for this first release but it was noted and the next revision should use a larger board. It’s probably going to be a bit tricky soldering wires on this one too. Hopefully it will be so powerful out of the gate that normal humans wouldn’t think of modding it. Present company excluded for obvious reasons.

Any normal humans reading this post??? No? Nobody? Insert audio track of crickets…

Really no big deal to gain more solder joint clearance, just tape the front of the reflector up with painters tape and the the emitter hole, just center over the emitter hole closing it off completely. Then file or sand the emitter base to gain clearance…

The fun part is, I have acces to a lathe at work. But mostly I don’t have time to play with it…

But today I made some low-clearance-solder-joint-thingy’s from some solderwick. Works great!

That is exactly where I am at as well.

The latest from Simon is, well not much. He did say that the “driver is coming soon”.
I thanked him for being so specific.

OMG what a light! :sunglasses:

Does he know he is torturing us with such little info?
