Converting Halogen to HID

I am wondering what options i will have available if i want to convert a halogen handheld light to HID?
This is the light that i am thinking of converting.(i have not received the light yet but it is in shipping, so i will have a tear down as soon as it arrives) It is a 50watt Halogen and i would like to convert it to 35 or 65 watt HID

thought i would bump this for research sake.

You’d need a much bigger host just to house the components and handle the heat.

there were 1,25D maglites cut\converted to hid, i saw few on cpf.
iirc the ballast that would fit there was only 10W. made by Solarc.
those hid conversion were about 500lm, nowadays even smaller led flashlight can easy outdo it.
unless the goal is to convert exactly that light into hid, no matter the cost. than yea, otherwise, it makes no sense to do.

Thanks for the information, it may be still possible to do so with a few kits I have been researching.

I’ve seen some round ballast in ebay an cnqualitygoods that could work. They have two modes but don’t know how they work.

light should be coming in today, so i should get some images up later, but i should be able to fit a 24w or 35w ballasts.

Interesting build. I had your flashlight but it melted down after an accidentally was left on with a 400 WATT bulb and 9 IMR cells.

will be interesting to see what kit you purchased since I would love to build a 2D Maglite into a 24W~35watt HID
