Olight M22 Warrior review

Hello all, I am new here and I have done a review for the light listed above. After looking at some of the posts here, it would appear that I’m not as technical as you guys are in reviews. However, I do have a severe fetish for flashlights and collect all sorts of them. Please check it out and let me know how to improve. Thanks

Welcome aboard.

thanks, is it kind of the norm on a site like this to have to give so much technical info? I am kinda more into the practical aspects and usability.

Anything for people who can read?
Mike

Welcome!
Cool to start posting with a review!

You make a review how YOU like it, can’t watch it now, a big thundertorm is kicking us off line but will check it later.

haha, with those eyes I’m guessing reading is an issue. I suppose if you prefer to read the review, I won’t have anything for you, there does seem to be plenty here on this site for you to read though. So hopefully you’ll live knowing mine is in video format.

To be honest a review based heavily around technical specs doesn’t always cover what is most wanted from a review, I’ve watched some that cover all sorts of stuff with charts, tables & figures but still leave you not having a clue what the light performs like in the dark outside.

Its good to see stuff like is the light nice to use, does it put a smile on your face, show it in use outside etc

Do it your own way I reckon, no point just doing whats already being done

I plan on doing a giveaway of an Olight s2 copper soon, is that something that would interest people here? Its one I’m doing a review on now once I’m done with the review I will give it away

Well, you obviously have some of the basics. I would suggest watching or reading reviews from others here and learning what they concentrate on and then you can incorporate, into yours, what you want. Usually, the basics are describing fit and finish, describing the user interface, giving amp draws and lumens measurements, giving run times and showing beam shots. Other than that, it's more individual preference for the video maker. There's enough threads here with video reviews and regular photo reviews that you should be able to develop from them.

thanks, I’ll do that

Part of the reason for all the specs is that we like to modify lights here. Seeing dimensions, of all aspects, helps us to know if we can or can’t do something specific with a light.

Olight likes to do things in a proprietary way. Like how the battery tube on the Warrior screws into what is essentially an adapter, which in turn is threaded down onto a spring, which touches an outer ground ring, which allows the tail cap to function whether the tube is threaded in all the way or not. This means that the tube can then be used to control mode levels and the comparatively complicated driver can memorize what level the screwed down tube was last used at to set the half press of the switch for this level as default one, with default 2 being always high and then Strobe.

This complication makes it somewhat difficult to modify this light. BUT, stacking sense resistors can bump output although it also affects the low end at the same time. For example, stacking 2 R140’s on top of the 2 existing R050’s yields 1100.5 lumens in place of the factory 950, but also bumps low to 65 instead of 20.

I will be further modifying mine to an FET with Bistro and larger diameter wires, double checking the thermal path from the emitter to ensure it’s direct and if not, replacing the mcpcb. The silly outer spring will go bye-bye and I’ll crank it down snug for optimum ground contact. I’ll also have to modify the switch of course, to be able to reliably handle some 6A+ and then I should see around 1650-1750 lumens, which the light should easily handle with all the cooling fins on the head.

See? The details are important, like, is the bezel glued on? Is the “adapter” glued in the threads? No, it’s not, it’s just a really tight fit and the dry o-ring doesn’t want to let go!

Does the reflector thread in? It would appear so, I’ve yet to focus on it’s removal.

Nice light, overly complicated in true Olight style. This can be good for those with a never ending supply of CR123 cells they themselves don’t have to purchase, as it takes 2 CR123 OR 1 18650. Being as how I myself don’t particularly like buying those little primary Lithiums, I’ll be changing mine. Not for everyone, surely. But still, inquiring minds want to know…
