oh master dchomak - how did you suspect that wiss tool would have penny’d out? it is a 0 price that does not seem to have a wind down schedule, and the date is fairly recent.
I scored a couple of penny deals this weekend. It was on two originally $46 under-cabinet LED task lights. I’ll try to post a pic later. The interesting thing was when I did the price check and then pushed the screen button to convert it to a check out the screen went to “Call Associate” or something to that effect, which we know could be trouble because the associate may confiscate the item. So I cancelled out fast and left the register quickly. But I went back shortly and just did a regular check out and the penny items went through normally without a hitch. So, bottom line, when the price check reveals a penny deal just cancel it out and return and treat it as a regular purchase. Keep the price check and the purchase as separate activities.
I’ve been to all but one HD in my city searching amongst the Leathermans for an overlooked Wingman but have found none. I’m going to have to go to the last one and check it now that dchomak has located some.
An associate told me the “Call Associate” happens when the discount sticker is scanned instead of the black bar code that is part of the product packaging. Ever since I started scanning the product bar code, I haven’t had that happen.
I should tell you that it is much more efficient to go into a store with the idea of looking for a large number of possible penny deals. The ability to do that will come with time as you notice what has been on clearance for the past few months. If you commit, your brain will literally be loaded with lots of possibly useless information………BUT, once in awhile it will pay off.
congrats! was this the 12 inch light? i remember seeing them at the 3 price which was around 12 bucks. i am a cheapskate so thought i would wait for the penny deal
you can say that again… and again i once went back to 3 wrong stores before hitting the right one trying to remember where i had seen a likely to be missed stash of armormax 3Ds when they went to a penny
Actually the “00” price is the very first stage of a wind down schedule, IF there is a date on the yellow clearance tag. This tool probably had a 6 price and a 3 price too. It’s just that this one tool never had the tag price updated.
The first clue to me was that it was laying horizontally across a couple of the peg board hooks in the tool section. When I saw the “00” and the date I figured it was old enough.
And it was.
Right now, dates toward the end of February are turning to a penny. Keep an eye on that 100W car inverter, it is just about old enough (03/01/16)
See, an example of maybe useless information swimming around in my head that I spoke about in my previous post
Thanks for the info. That is what happened. I checked some prices today on some LED bulbs and the first time I check on one bulb I did scan the orange code and got the “Call Associate” but I did it again on a different copy of the same item w/o the clearance sticker and got the price w/o the warning.
