Improved XP LEDs

Sorry another question!

Is the High Intensity version available in the V6 bin? again some sellers seem to stock them but could be lies…

Most “XP-L HI V6” are actually just V2. Top bin at the time is V3… There is no V5 or V6.

Cheers pal

If Cutter claims they have a certain bin, they do.

Mark Riley is the owner of Cutter Electronics, they’re a listed Cree distributor, is a member here (welight) and TOS for years. I’ve never know anyone to have an issue with his specs.

They also occasionally get reels which are above max listed bins by Cree. There are some for sale over there now, and this has been discussed here recently, though not the ones you’re asking about.

The only V6 I see listed are standard XP-L, not High Intensity.

As far as AliExpress, I’m not sure saying “take that with a grain of salt” to be sufficient. Many sellers have a loooonnngggggg track record of instantly listing lights as having the latest Cree, sometimes before they’re even released. When the XP-L was released, I saw several sellers update the descriptions to claim XP-L when in fact the pictures clearly showed and XM-L2 or XP-G2. This happened with the Nichia NVSL family as well, many sellers listed standard 70 CRI emitters as High CRI, which are nearly impossible to distinguish from one another without firing them up. The phosphors are a slightly different color, but that’s hard to see from pics. I’d imagine the same thing is happening right now in regards to the XP-G3.

Then there’s the whole clone/counterfeit thing that’s become rampant.

Getting accurate descriptions from many sellers is downright impossible. I only order from a handful of trusted places now, and I’ve not been burned doing that.

Good news everyone, the new dome xpls fit under carclo 20mm triples

Just ordered qty 2 of the W2 bin XPL from the AliExpress store. Still suspicious, but he did show me photographic evidence of the CREE labeling, identifying an order of 500 of the XPL W2 1A tint, with a seal date of Apr 25th, 2016.

Am I nuts or what?

Ohhh - just noticed the "Made in China" on the CREE label... Interesting.....

Second label is an original , like these intl-outdoor has in the leds description

Gotta let me know how them leds work for you Tom and whether you think they’re authentic. Been eyeing them last few days. Thanks again.

Apologies, This might be out of line in this thread… I’ve been out of action for a while and are just wondering if we still have the issues around XP-G2s, colour & performance? Its good to know XP-L is moving forward, well we hope? Maybe the W2s are also based on the current production process of the XP-G2s that plagues the market lately? The W2 cannot replace the XP-G2, but, for the interim it might just be a temporary option until we have something better.

I think these are a bit optimistic…

Are you sure there are xp-l hi’s W2 ? I know there are standard xpl in W2 bin , but not hi’s .

Hi giorgoskok. I’m certain that we’ll not find W2 binned XP-L Hi’s… just saying that their advertising is a bit optimistic. I’m saying they’re lying

Got it , i was just a little confused . Good to know

Any info or testings done with this XPL W2?

I got em, but no time to do anything with them. I got a flood of TBD projects, about 50 times more than available time unfortunately. Was trying to figure how I could kill a couple birds with 1 stone, but can't come up with any ideas.

It is clear to me now that the dye of the XPL V6's are the same as XM-L2 U3's, CREE output is rated the same, shade better for the U3's, so think'n the W2/W3 are more in the U4 class - if they are real of course.

Bottom line is it just not a priority to me right now - buried in crazy things of the BLF Q8 project and Narsil, can't get any time off at work - lot of pressure there as well.

Cree corporate headquarters is in Durgam, NC but not their manufacturing. Why is the made in China label strange?

I actually never noticed that before. I assumed Cree were made in the USA. Shows what I know.

In response to that rosin goop around the LEDs. The very best thing I have ever found to take care of that is using some goof off cleaner on a Qtip. Takes it right off. Much better than alcohol. Just make sure you do NOT touch the dome of the LED with it. That will dry/crack/fog it almost instantly.

Me too - always assumed they were made in NC .

That is logical conclusion…

Why you make them dirty.
