Halogen torchiere bulb replacement with LED

I have a couple of very nice halogen torchiere lights that burn rather hot… and I’d love to convert them to LED. I’ve seen a few DIY’s attempted posted on the Internet… which all pose some risks and variances that would make it challenging for someone not accustomed to doing a DIY with LED’s.

So, after digging around I found a website that has what appears to be torchiere bayonet style LED replacements:

This one looks promising:

But Internet comments seem to say that most of these Chinese R7 LED lights are usually quite dim, compared to the original halogen bulb.

Anybody here bought one of these, or similar?

You haven’t mentioned what wattage the lamp in the Torchiere is. The linear halogen lamps start at about 18 lumens per watt in the lower power ranges, and get to about 22 lumens per watt by the time you get to 500 watt lamps. Most of the Lamps I have seen in Tochiere fixtures are 150-330 watts, which would give you 2700-6600 lumens.

So unless you are replacing a low wattage halogen, 2200 lumens is going to be considerably less than what you already have…

Late to the thread but I have a torchiere that I’ve refitted for LEDs a few years ago. Originally I used a single Bridgelux RS-series COB and a Meanwell ELN-series power supply/driver that gave 4000-5000lm of dimmable 3000K light. Last year I replaced the RS-series LED with four Bridgelux 4000K Vero10 LEDs (90cri) and swapped the driver for a different Meanwell model (the Veros need higher voltage). This boosted output to around 7200lm though I rarely have it on full-brightness. I’ve found that 4000K is a great color temperature for the living room.

I’d forgotten to mention that the torchiere in question is rated for 500w. I absolutely would not expect to get the same brightness capability from an LED swap. I never use more than 50% of its capacity. Of course, now 3 years later, there has been some progress in this space. I’ve seen some Chinese companies come out with festoon style LED replacements. But… not much written about them. Hard to know what’s viable and what’s junk. From what I gather, PWM can be a big problem. Everything looks great on total lumens and tint, but then… there’s that pesky PWM.

I recently picked up a G4 style 2 pin LED replacement for a tiny tensor lamp. It is just as described — good useful output and tint, but the PWM is annoying.
