Good afternoon , I introduce myself , I’m Nicolas of Argentina , I’m a fan of lanterns and hunting, some time ago a friend made a trip to the US I ah brought a reflector “Buffalo River” 240mm with a halogen lamp100W but I want to change it by a more powerful , can anyone recommend me a XENON HID lamp that is more powerful than the one that brings factory ? As in my country I can not get would be great if I could buy for DX , BG , GB or FT . Since I am grateful for and responses and I apologize for my English.

Do you know what bulb type does it use? I suposse you could fit a 55/75W HID in there, but the ballast must be attached outside the case. If you don’t know which bulb type you’ll have to take it apart and take some pictures.
All of the incan and HID badasses are on CPF. Be sure and try there.
I assume that’s a 12v unit. Are you using a cigarette lighter outlet to power it? If so you don’t want to pull much more than 100W from it; 8 amps.
The easiest thing to do would simply be to feed more voltage to your bulb. How much depends on what bulb it is exactly. Long life bulbs can generally handle more over-voltage. Take a good look at the [destructive incan test thread.](http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?179748-Destructive-Incan-Bulb-Tests-Updated-8-27-2010-(Newer-Info-Added) It’s awesome. Incan bulbs put out whiter light and a lot more lumens when run at the ragged edge, though their life is shortened substantially. Of course it is worth it. Go too far and they burn out.
I am not sure what kind of bulb is in that spotlight by default. It has an axial (vertical) filament which makes a much nicer beam than horizontal filament bulbs like Osram 64623, 64625, etc. An Osram 62138 is probably a fairly comparable bulb, though it seems to have a shorter filament than the one in your picture and might throw a beam farther. It’s pretty sweet to run 18v-19v or so to a 64447 IRC bulb, but not more than 20 or it’ll poof. Best to regulate the source with a JM-PHD-D1 driver. IRC and HIR bulbs have coatings on the glass that reflect the infrared emissions back onto the filament, making it burn hotter at a given wattage, thus more efficiently.
I would agree that sending 50w to an HID would be a good move. Automotive HID ballasts and bulbs are fairly inexpensive these days. I would rock a unit from the retrofit source personally. There are cheaper ballasts and bulbs on ebay, but you might not want to cheap out too much on the bulb.
It appears to have a ceramic bi-pin socket which may accommodate G4, G5.3, GX5.3, G6.35, GY6.35, etc., type bi pin bulbs. The bulb looks a lot like a 64458 but it is hard to tell from the picture. The bulb itself may be labeled on the neck. I would recommend trying an Osram 62138 if just looking for a swap in bulb replacement. It is a 50 hour rated bulb and burns hot: 3,050 lumens @ 12v. Over 4,000 lumens at 14 volts.
I’m mildly confused now. The OP wants an HID bulb yet, the pic shows the older light without the ballast. When I said it uses an H3 bulb above, it was related to the halogen model. crud, might have been hallucinating …
The stock light does not have an HID bulb. It is a 100w halogen. This is said to be a picture of the bulb that’s in it:
It doesn’t appear to use an H3 automotive bulb and socket, which are like Osram 64151 and SYLVANIA 64156 bulbs, with a PK22S base. Instead it has a ceramic bi-pin socket.
The Osram 62138 is said to be the stock bulb in the Lightforce SL240 spotlight. If the stock bulb in the buffalo is a “long life” bulb, the 50 hour rated 62138 will be considerably brighter.

62138 and upgrading the cord to something heavy to cut loss is what i would do.
50 hours is a very long life in something that only gets intermittent use and will be an impressive upgrade.
at 13.8-14.0v where a normal automotive system runs expect nearly 4000lm and 25 hours.
