Low-cost copper pills, spacers, optics, drop-ins (Updated 23/10/2022))

Take your time Kirill.
In the meantime, I’ll talk about the Khatod. I’ve been experimenting with this because nobody else has. I usually post my builds and thoughts in the mod thread so others can decide. If I have a fail, I post that too. I have yet to build a light with the 24mm Carlco, but now that I have some of kirills kits, that’s next. Too bad Banggood discontinued the S2/X5 hosts. I had four on backorder.

I’m mostly using the 35mm Khatod because it gives me option for hosts I didn’t have before, since I can sand it down anywhere between 35mm and 25mm without touching the optical cones.
It can be tricky, and great care should be observed when installing since it was really designed for smaller emitters such as Rebels and XPC. The aperture is shallow and one must be careful that it doesn’t crush emitters such as XP-G3 and Nichia. So far I haven’t had any problems, but care must be taken. Next, I’ll probably try it with Nichia 219C and an M1.

This optic is just something I chose to experiment with since they’re readily available to me …$$$$ although a little pricy.

I will repeat what I have wrote several days ago.
I hate semi-ready decisions.
If I provide transformation kit, it should be “bolt-on”.
I understand that here are few guys that like to work with hands several more hours, but I will become the bankrupt if I will order parts by 1 or 2pcs in batch. Most BLF members are simple users, and items that I provide should be usable for most of them.

I understand completely which is why I’m pointing out that khatods are not for everyone. They are not “out of the box” ready to be plunked into a light. They need to be worked on and adjusted. I’m not even sure yet if an XP-L hi will fit in them. So as part of a ready to go “kit”, not the easiest way to go, and less experienced builders could have problems with broken emitters just trying to install them.

XP-L HI should fit khatod, but lots of lumens will run away.
Khatod 25.4mm with full spacer or with second part could be ready for use from box, but they cost a lot, they are not available from mtn or i-o and they will cost like a piece of gold out of N.America.
Almost same situation with tpad quad pcb. I still dont have any of them. Dont know where does member from eu get it, but it is defenetly not budget deal.

I think Khatod is made in Italy.

Yes, and I can buy 100 of them for 600€.
Im talking about place where custom builders can buy leds, pcbs and one optic with low cost shipping.

I would like to build a quad like yours, my first quad
Where did you buy the spacer, what size
Is the driver 17mm
Where did you buy the quad leds and what size
Is the host the new version

Thanks
Robert

Carclo 30mm TIR fits M1 perfectly:

Interested in a M1 heatsink.

Please mention configuration/optics in such comments.

I would to use a 25mm khatod since I have a couple of those, so a glass on top will be needed.

So, M1 spacer will fit Khatod quad optics. Similar to X5 spacer, it will consist from 2 parts, but now upper ring from SS will have place for o-ring (this means that glass will be sealed from both sides). If someone will find GITD o-ring with necessary size (29-31mm OD, 1.5/2.0-1.5mm thickness), it should looks great.

Sounds like you’re going for it Kirill.
I’ve always thought the M1 was one of the best designed hosts out there, but that 30mm lens really didn’t leave a lot of options for modding.

If I had to design this combinations for myself, I would prefer single 26.5mm M2 and 30mm M1. I don`t believe in this fins at all. I promise nothing, but if many things will meet, I will show you how do fins should look like. I prefer combinations that have so power that you can keep it in hand until battery is empty. S2-S8 can carry 5-6W, C8 7-8W. I have A6 with custom mid-head (see avatar) and single XP-L HI in direct drive makes this piece of copper so hot that you can fry mosquitos after 3-4 enters into turbo mode. This is less that two minutes, what`s next? I need flashlight for 15 minutes or more, and I don`t understand people that want quad XP-L in this size.

My previous message also means that those who want to use Khatod quad optics can make it in M1 (only). And those who want to build M1 quad will be able to buy kit for Khatod optics (only). Other quad conv. kits will be comparable with Carclo only (in Carclo I trust).

M1 conv. kit upper part is little bigger and more difficult, while 29x2 GITD o-ring much more expensive that I expected. I suppose I will be able to suggest them for $12-13.

Received my copper pills. Fit perfectly in my S2+. Thank you

Any headway on the p60 dropins?

I think they will be ready till end of the next week.

Great, thanks for the update.

I don’t know him but maybe he is in vacation.

If here lots of those that are going to use p60 drop-in with triple? Is it necessary to make additional part (‘liner’) with place for gitd o-ring?
