I am so glad to see the contest take shape and I hope there will be many more members that try to make something this year.

There is no pass or fail here.

Each idea is unique and each person has different methods of working with the materials they have on hand.

I cannot tell you how many times I learn new ideas here and this is what it’s all about. It’s not the competition. It’s not the prizes. It’s all about the individual’s learning curve and the development and thought processes that go into making something from scratch. It’s about the path you take and what you learn and share, not the prize at the end. The prize should be the fulfillment of making something by hand that you thought you might not really be able to do and proving it to yourself that you can, or learning your missed steps even f you can’t.

I wish all of you good luck and good fortune with your builds and I will be watching here, in spirit, as you make them the one of a kind masterpieces that you will create.

Well said! Though the idea of a prize is nice, more significant to me is pushing past perceived limitations to achieve something no one thought of or thought possible.

Thought i’d have a go (machine made) plan is to build a dual emitter ,4 x 26350 cell light, it will be a basic aluminum jobby with 2 xhp35’s mtn max 4amp driver reflectors 36 x28 http://www.kaidomain.com/p/S021791.36mm-D-x-28_6mm-H-SMO-Aluminum-Reflector-1-pc 26.7 a bit of prep cleaned the lathe.its a Chinese job I think they retail as grizzly in the states… assembled the quality control committee ordered the components from mtn so I got a little time today and bought this little chunk …

Solar's 4th Annual BLF / Old Lumens Scratch Made Light Contest entry

Well, I have decided to throw my hat into the ring, handmade class. I budgeted 30 dollars for my build until I read Old Lumens blog. He and his bride needs the money more than a flashlight does. So I donated my light money for his well being. http://dyingintylertxofcancer.mydagsite.com/the_story I have some spare parts and stuff laying around to build some kind of handmade light. I have a few ideas to make something BLF hasn't seen yet. So stay tuned! Lets show our support to OL and his wife!

Another question regarding the contest. Somehow always the same people reply to the build threads. Those people also happen to be the contestants Does the rest of the forum actually know that there is a contest? Maybe if there’d be another sticky in the modding area that would motivate some more people to join in. And the more people there are making lights the more fun it is, isn’t it?

Pretty sure most know about it given how often all the threads spend time at the beginning of the recent posts list there’s just always been a huge disparity between the number of people reading a thread and posting in it(read count listed at the bittom of the op in each thread). It does surprise me how few of the forum regulars respond to updates though. The contests thread itself I believe gets stickied already in its subforum.

As much as I’d love to be in the mix, this time around Real Life™ is taking precedence. Nothing bad is happening, quite the opposite actually.

I know there’s a bit of time left yet, & I have a pile of parts & even an idea(!), but I can’t see it getting done.

I’m watching all the builds when I get chance - there’s some great stuff going on this year
