Klarus Mi7 first impressions

UI:
very simple to use. One click to high, second click to medium, then off. Long press from off to low, then one click off. Double click to blinky, then one click back to which ever before entering blinky. I gotta say the UI is very well thought out. Especially, from low, one click simply turn it off, rather than cycling through medium and high. In reality, when I went to low mode, I must be trying to preserve night vision or something, I really don’t need to cycle to medium when I am done. There’s lock-out by pressing 5 seconds, which is great.

The look: it looks really cute. So cute that my gf just claimed ownership… The build quality feels nice too. I really like the all metal body, including the side button.

The beam: cw only. a small orange peel reflector with xpl-HI. So a chip with good throw and a reflector without… well personally I don’t care much about the throw, so whatever. Like the orange peel though. My Manker T01 beam looks just ugly with that smooth reflector.

The only downside so far: the standby current is 59.4 μA with a freshly charged eneloop pro, which is a little high.

does lockout stop standby current?

I don’t think, the micro controller still needs a small current to detect the electronic switch activation

No physical lockout, then?

Electronic lockout, yes
Physical lockout, yes. (threads are anodized)
You can choose…

Neat!

can this light be shut off from high? or do you have to go to low first?

NO. It cycles down to med then off

sad

If it’s any consolation, just a slight twist of the head and it’s off.

10 years ago we had to go through modes to turn off lights. I figured those days were behind us.
