GB Oficially closed/// Maxtoch 2X Shooter (new version)

Mine’s coming USPS. I still have:
“Origin Post is Preparing Shipment, We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece.”
That was from the 27th.
FWIW, I’m tracking another unrelated package, and it says exactly the same thing.
In my experience, there is no USPS update on these Chinese sites, at least until delivery confirmation. What I really want to know is when it left/leaves China, and I’m not sure I’m going to find out.
For me, the best way to deal with these situations is to try to not think about it, then it just shows up one day. But sometimes (like in this case), that is hard. For me it’s usually about 3 weeks from China, sometimes 2; rarely 4. So it could be awhile. That was a nice touch to upgrade some of the early birds to DHL, as that is not cheap, even in China.

That quad is insane, BTW. Very entertaining beamshots to look at!

What’s the approximate K temp on the tint on these? I’ve looked at some pictures but it’s hard to tell. I tend to favor 4000-4500K (5000k is not ideal, but acceptable), would I be disappointed?

That Quad is sick. Love the ingenious way you went about building it. You have to love the way the spill picks up with multi emitters. :+1:

Below are the comparison of tint colours (taken using iPhone and observed colours are very true on calibrated monitors):
Maxtoch Shooter 2X - dedomed XM-L2 U4 (1A or 2B?) + original AR coated glass
Courui D01 - dedomed XP-G2 S3 2B - original non-AR coated glass
Fenix TK61- dedomed XM-L2 U3 2A - original AR coated glass
BLF X5 - XP-L HI V? 3B (Stock)

Left to Right: 2X, D01, TK61 at 1.5 meters

Left to Right: 2X & X5 at 0.5 meter

Personal feeling, 2X shows slight greenish tint, D01 is greener without AR, TK61 is more to yellow, X5 is rosy pink. How many K, hard to tell; as I do not have the measurement equipment. BTW, I like the yellow TK61’s tint the most, which is dedomed U3 2A+purple AR lens.

Thanks for those!

I tend to agree with you, from those shots, I like the TK61’s tint the most too.

:+1:

Green tint? Did not want to hear that. Fine with yellow, but not green.

Have never detected green tint with our 2Xs - lemon yellow for good CRI. Have you noticed green with your maxtochs Robo?

If people don’t have too much experience bringing in goods by China mail, brjones’s advice is bang on:

“For me, the best way to deal with these situations is to try to not think about it, then it just shows up one day. But sometimes (like in this case), that is hard. For me it’s usually about 3 weeks from China, sometimes 2; rarely 4. So it could be awhile.”

Used to be 1-2 months, now its usually about 2-3 weeks.

Mine have always shown a more yellowish , or as mudgripz calls it “lemon” tint with the dedomed U4 1A.

The only time I see a green tint is when I am shining in a totally green field (really green grass and trees) where I do a lot of my testing.

Mind posting some tint shots mud or robo? :money_mouth_face:

I really don’t think with a thrower light like the 2X , a close up wall shot is the way to check the tint. That is just my opinion though.

I just went out with the camera and a few lights but I am not going to be able to do any beamshots right now because there is a ton of fog out there.

I will try again tomorrow to get some shots but here are a few I already have of the 2X for now…………
The first shot was a kind of misty night , so it kind of has some reflection in the visible beam.
655 yards to target

500 yards

260 yards

FYI. I just received my 2 lights. They left from Shenzhen, China on 7/27 and arrived at USPS facility in Los Angeles, CA on 7/29. Then they went thru 3 different USPS facilities for the final 60 miles, arriving at 1pm PST.

Still daylight so I really can’t test the throw. The lights are of high quality and are working well so far with the tail cap or remote. Can’t wait to test them out tonight especially aimed at the 1000+ yard mountain range behind my house.

+1 :open_mouth:

Wow. Gave the 2X a test run tonight. The high beam easily lit up 2 homes at distances of about 500 and 800 yards. Even the medium beam lit up the house at 500 yds. The low beam was brighter than my BLF Special Edition X6 on Turbo which is supposed to reach out over 400 meters. The beam is nice and tight but still gives good spillage.

Unfortunately, I did not have a decent target to light up in the 1000+ yard range. The 2X got warm after several minutes but never got hot.

About the only problem I had was toggling the tail cap between modes. It needs to be “positively” depressed to change modes but too hard turns it off. If the press is too “soft”, the mode may not change. It is also “hard” to distinguish between high and medium modes at close distances around 100 feet or so. I had to switch to low to figure out what mode I was in at close distances. I did not have this toggling issue with the remote pressure switch.

Finally, I mounted the light on an AR-15 handguard’s picatinny rail using a 1 inch extra high scope mount. I only used one mount and it was very solid feeling. I could add a second mount if necessary. The head of the light did show up in the 7 to 10 o’clock portion of my scope but just barely and it did not effect the view of the reticle through the scope. I did manage to temporarily blind myself by turning on the light in high mode and having the light bounce off the room/s wall while looking thru the scope. Ouch.

Much thanks again to all those who developed this light and the group buy.

Very happy with the physical condition of the 2x.

New m24 arrived with a few minor marks, tool marks below the anno on the switch and visual damage around the head screws and a tiny spot on the reflector.

And a new shorty tube for the old m24s to complete the collection.

Batteries are charging now. Tonight is going to be bright

There will be some blind roos around tomorrow morning…

Yup. I expect complaints from the neighbours

I will be watching the night sky from NZ….

Ok. Batteries came with 3.50v so it’s going to be “late” when I get to test them. Only up to 3.72v after 1hr 40min.

The main thing I learnt tonight… the S5 has no manual controls.
