Lamp controllable by phone/PC

I’m looking for a lamp bright enough for reading with that I can turn on and off using an Android phone. I know it’s an obscure request, but my better half often falls asleep reading and I’m obliged to climb out of bed, walk around it, turn it off, return. Or climb over her, often inadvertently tea-bagging her.

The best option I’ve found so far is this:

It looks like it’d do the job but I can’t help but think that BG/GB et al should have something cheaper. I just can’t find anything yet.

Anyone come across something that’d work? I’ve seen Instructables type options but I’m not keen on tinkering, I’m after something that’ll work straight out of the box.

Bonus points for a second lamp that can be controlled by PC - I thought a simple USB lamp combined with a USB hub from which power can be selectively turned on for the individual ports would work, but I can’t find a suitable USB hub/switch.

Sounds like you need the clapper!

1984 Technology, but they are still for sale. (no PC or smart phone required)

Haha. I remember the clapper. I’m looking for iOS controlled options as well.

something like wink (www.wink.com) ou smartthing (www.smartthings.com) ?

but it is more expensive

I’ve purchased a few of the lifx smart bulbs and they seem to work pretty good. I’ve got these two…Color 1000 & White 900

Remote controlled outlets are very common for cheap, at least here in the states

You can probably get this at most Home Depots in the USA. This is what we have and it works over LAN or internet.
Apps for Android and iOS are free
Home Depot has had these starter kits with 2 bulbs for $25 for the longest time.

They are way more on the internet
Wink Starter Kit

The Xiaomi Yeelight.

Buddha has a review of it on here.

I just use remote controlled outlets like this:
http://www.nexa.se/vara-produkter/system-nexa/paket/pe3

About 20 euros for the three receivers + a remote. Works much faster than some phone app, physical buttons ftw.

I have bought several of these:

and like them very much.

They are controlled from iOS or Android via Bluetooth and can deliver both fairly bright white or colored light.

Very happy someone remembers my reviews.

This is better as a reading light.

The Yeelight is a great ambient-bedside lamp.
The Desklamp is a more dedicated lamp and without colored modes.

Yes Pilotdog68 and Maukka are offering th Le easiest solution
Just hang the remote at a location ypi and your wife can easy reach…

Not keen on a remote - it will get lost. I’ve used a similar setup before so I’m speaking from experience.
Some of the options (Wink etc) look good but more than I’m willing to pay.

I like the look of the E27 smart bulbs - combined with a cheap lamp that could work.
Other option that I’ve come across (following the comments above) would be this:

Think either option works out about £20 total. Do the Yeelight type bulbs need to be connected to a Wifi network to work, or is it more Wifi Direct?

Could you just stick some velcro on a remote and have it within arms reach and not lose it because of its “fixed” position?

WiFi can’t work without a “base station” (Access Point). For a home network this is normally in the same .box as the Modem, Router and Firewall.

For a direct connection use Bluetooth.

I can control my home LED lights with an APP on my tablet or smartphone. :cowboy_hat_face: The WIFI LED and WIFI LED bulbs strip are easy to operate with a remote control. I create lighting plan with my individual components… I bought special Modem Router for WIFI LED, here`s a good article with examples jonsguide.org. Wireless luxurious comfort at from any place and any time. :+1:

Yes those are nice. But they are not special to led. And a combo unit is not required for led lighting. Separate router is just as good and in some cases it is preffered.

I was also just about to search for and post that link, very nice review.
