Reflector revised: ReyLight Pineapple Brass 14500/AA Flashlight, Nichia 219C 4000K

Improved driver, with more components, pill and bodies must be re-machined to be a little longer.

Buying Nichia from Japan took a long time, but it’s finally done, new prototype were sent to 2 BLF members to review.

BTY, do you have a name for it? It’s really not something I can do. I havn’t even given a name to the Triple Ti.

Rey, do you have any pictures from the front of the light, as well as the switch?

I’d like to call it “Brassius”

I assume this ReyLight Brass on banggood is the same light described in this post. The pictures show a nice warm tint, which is what I want. Exactly what color temperature is the LED?

As for a name suggestion, I don’t know. Reylight Pineapple?

Rey, this brass AA is beautiful! Once again, I think you have done a remarkable job in the design and build process of this light. With AA or 14500 use possible this will be widely used for gifting, anyone can use it without fear from children to business professionals. Excellent!

I might have liked to see the circumferential grooves remain unbroken but that is just me. My thought on that is that it would be smoother in the pocket, more gentle on feminine and childish hands. All in all though, I still think you did a wonderful job with this. Well done!

Edit: I’m also curious about the grade of brass used. Naval brass has an appeal for it’s toughness, but I am mainly just curious.

Yes, it is pre-sale,I will start a thread soon. It ’s 4000K.
The name looks very good. Thank you.

Nice light but it’s going to be a hard time to compete with Astrolux S41S Quad Nichia 219B offering 1600LM for a similar price.

So it’s called the pineapple?

The Astrolux is a completely different light.

An apple and an orange are both fruit but are not comparable.

If the golden brass light is equipped with the near legendary Nichia 219B emitter, why not call it the “Golden Rey of Sunshine” ?

Isn’t 12-24 Christmas Eve? At promptly 12:24 on my phone I got a message from DHL that this sample brass light from Rey will be here on the 13th. Review pending, photo’s galore, of course.

I agreed that it’s a different class of light but the manufacture need to think like consumers else they wont do well.

Just a feed back as a buyer’s view and i don’t meant to whinge.

Consumers that buy a flashlight at similar cost will compare other lights for more features. Not everyone have the money to buy everything and the vast majority of people can only pick one flashlight at similar cost and compare for more features such as lumens, design look, size and runtime.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the ReyLight Brass light but if i got $40 to spend then i will buy definitely buy Astrolux S41S as there are so many good things wins over this light also lithium batteries are so common now. This light need to come up a special feature that no other manufactures have developed or can replicate then i will consider buying otherwise it’s no different to a car that have Ferrari body with Hyundai engine and it perform like a cheap Hyundai car.

Really common 170 lumens on AA is pathetic as many cheap lights can do it better.

As a principle, consumers want a nice design, more features , good performance at competitive cost and if you can’t deliver those then someone else will make those lights and win the customers.

Nicolicous may have a point from a beginner’s view, but a light like this is not typically targeted at the entry level consumer. Bells and whistles can be left out for the higher grade of build, the more custom lineage of exotic materials. As with most custom designers, Rey is forming a following and this is growing on his successful designs. The obvious idea here was to go with a very exotic Damascus, which was met with mixed feelings over the cost. I have seen Damascus bar stock run as high as $700 per 6” bar, so I know the cost is high in that realm.

Moving back to the brass delivers a very nice light, with multiple chemistry options, and I for one welcome the change over the common key ring style small lights. I could easily gift a light like this to my Aunt’s or Uncles that are up in age and not have to worry about them learning the new Li-ion issues.

Edit: And for the record…

2016 GENESIS COUPE 3.8 Ultimate
4 SEATS 348HP 16/25MPG CITY/HWY

348-hp 3.8L GDI DOHC V6 engine
6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with carbon synchros or 8-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® and rev-matching
18-inch alloy wheels

At around $34,000. Very cheap Ferrundai.

Many people would rather park a Hyundai Genesis at WalMart than a Ferrari. Perspectives and target market.

I guess Nicolicous is not the target market for this light. I am. So are many others. The Astrolux looks Sweet, but if I only had $40, I’d buy the ReyLight.

Agree with what gunga and DB mentioned.
I have the S41, and no doubt will also pre-order the new S41S but the ReyLight brass light fills a niche market not targetted at beginners or first time buyers.
I have the BLF Reylight Ti triple and I’m waiting for the reviews of this light before I jump in to add to my collection of brass and copper lights.

I made the prototype for the Astrolux, it’s based on my own modification to the copper X5 and I sent an aluminum model to Neal for them to go by. They tweaked it as they saw fit, of course, and as production could handle. They also re-designed the mcpcb with certain dangerous elements, namely putting the positive trace very very near to the screws that could short it to ground. Perhaps some have already forgotten it’s potential issues. At any rate, it is indeed a fairly sweet little light and certainly not a direct contender to this brass custom AA Rey has designed and implemented. Different animals, as it were. One is a potential hot rod that could get someone in trouble, the other is a sweet elegant gift option that any kid can use. A businessmans EDC, as it were.

Edit: Makes me wonder who’s seen the MecArmy PT16 in Titanium or Brass? $260 or $190 respectively? Um, yeah, nope. Rey delivers.

For half the price of MecArmy PT16 titanium or brass, can get the Blackwater SR71.
mhanlen has a video rrview of the Blackwater.
Solidly built, pity about the dreadful UI as the using the same UI as MecArmy PT series gen1

If Rey decides to design his triple EDC but with brass or copper, and newer driver than his Titanium triple, I’ll join the que again

Yep I prefer ReyLight over the The Astrolux too.

Hey quetzalcoatl

here is the link for you to order ReyLight Brass 219CT 9050 4Modes

Hey Dale

I know you mod lights and im impress with your work. I also can mod too but no way near you but I do respect your skills. I hate modding because it takes time to get the parts also the cost adds up further as well as thing can go wrong during the modding. However this is not about the modding discussion rather a product offering on the market.

Like i said earlier, I honestly like the light design but it hasnt got me to a point to click the buy button. At this stage it’s just a pretty brass tube that’s all.

lets look other light manufactors why they are doing well and have unique features.

zebralight SC5AA with same batery configuration as Reylight AA- can pump 535Lumens on burst mode with good modes spacing as well as supper moon mode 0.1 Lm constaly running 4 months. No other lights can do this and they are unique whereas ReyLight offering 170lumens on burst (not so wow) and any cheap lights can do this too.

Imalent lights- offer cool and innovated features such as touchscreen like no other flashlights can deliver or copy. They do have issues but heading into a good direction and maybe one day they will have it running perfect once they work out the bugs.

Foursevens flashlights - offering cool and crazy features like bluetooth control and others. They do have issues but they are unique and innovating the technolgy. Perhaps it will be perfect oneday once they resolve bug issues.

The bottom line is consumer want to spend their money with good features, good design in comparison with other flashlights offering in the market. If you don’t think like consumers or deliver what they want then it’s going to be a tough road of business.

The reality is that I have been observing both lights from bangood when they released to the market ( S41S and Reylights AA) for similar price and it speaks for itself.

ReyLight Brass 219CT - 1 preorder

Astrolux S41S- 74 preorders and i still havent order my lights yet. This number will continue to grow and you can watch it later

Edit: I wont be further discussing on this topic as it will open up a can of worms. I dont mean to put negative things to the post rather contributing my view . The manufacturer can choose to listen to customers or refuse and it’s their choice of a dry business road.

Oh yeah !
