New Convoy C8 – Clearly better

+ 1 … :+1:

That was basically the whole point of this firmware. Convoy’s driver hardware isn’t changing significantly. So, the ‘new’ drivers are essentially the ‘existing’ drivers with the new firmware flashed to the MCU. Other minor changes include a different color PCB, apparently.

Yep!
I’m just now flashed Nanjg 105D 8*AMC7135

+1,000,000….

Yes, it is possible. Just flashed another AK47 with it and it works.
The original “default” attiny13 software (3+5) can not be saved/downloaded though, at least not with avrdude on my orangepi.

you can erase/flash

Yes but, I just want new body with plain old driver and regular price. I know you put significant effort to make all this interesting firmwares and I am sure many people will like them, I thank you You in their name but in my case I will just erase it and burn some of firmwares that I like and use and thats why I am not that fond of idea paying additional fee for “improoved” driver that I would reprogram upon arrival. So, it would be nice to have cheaper option with regular Nanjg 105C/Driver, it can even be blank if they ask me.

I don’t want to stir pots here, I appreciate everyone’s good work, yours and Simons but with this price Convoy is this close -> II to Crelant prices and If you ask me, Crelant has noticable better anodisation, machining, SS elements on tailcaps, SS clip, e-button and tail switch (allows interesting firmware functionalities), driver can be moded also or for $2 I can use Nanjg105 and burn firmware to my needs…
Some may say, buy host only but that option is always least cost efectiv, host + emitter used in stock light + driver used in stock C8 (old fw) costs more than complitely by Simon assembled flashlight with identical components…

TK, liking Biscuit a lot.

On product page it says something like ” don’t keep it in config mode too long, it will wear down memory ”
What does Simon mean by this?

Discount? Come on a lot of work went into this. Just wait for it to show on the bigger sites BG/GB/FT and there is a promo or special deal and points store credit to be used

This small price bump for
New anodization
AR glass
And new firmware
Be happy!

The price difference with previous version is exactly $3, and besides new firmware, this version adds AR coated glass and DTP copper MCPCB.

When is this coming in black?

While I agree with TK and others, we’re on *budget*lightforum.com…… you can’t really blame a guy for just asking for a coupon, can you?

+1 The differences are real and measurable. I know this is BudgetLightForum, but price is only one part of measuring value. Simon isn’t cheating anyone on the price.

Asking for a discount is one thing. But, upon being reminded that the price is already “discounted” and that the item is well worth the current price, to then continue to push the issue and insist that an additional discount is justified because I’m not going to use all the parts anyway is dangerously close to insulting those who put so much effort into making this great “budget” light for us all to enjoy.

I disagree. I think the discussion itself is quite valid, and I see no attempt to insult anyone.

It in the works. I’ll keep you posted.

Thank you for saying that ToyKeeper.
I’m sorry all but no, I will not ask Simon to give us a special promo price for the reasons ToyKeeper mentioned.
He makes little enough profit as it is and he delivers quality way above his price mark.
This light is still coming in well under $25 no matter what options you choose and Simon will take 15% off of that for BLF members if you ask for the discount.

OK. I see your point. But, remember that there are many different languages and cultures here. We all see/hear/experience things differently. I’m not trying to accuse anyone of insulting anyone else intentionally. I just want to caution against being too aggressive in asking for discounts, because that automatically implies that the item is overpriced, which can be insulting to those who put so much effort into making it and offering it to us. Like I said above, asking is one thing…

Black Convoy XPL-HI $21
Clear Ano Convoy XPL-HI $24

$1 for the AR glass.
$1 for the Cu DTP board.
$.50 for the new Ano.
$.50 for the new Driver.

Not too shabby.

Anyway, if the price is a little high just wait a couple months. The other vendors will have it on sale for around $19 based on sale prices of the old black version.

Peacekeeping Edit: I removed my comment about Hunter’s post as it did not add anything positive.
It was written early in the morning after a particularly poor night’s sleep and before I’d had my coffee… :person_facepalming:
Getting my very first “Rude” mark was clear sign that I should have been a bit nicer. I think my comment may have been viewed at least by Hunter as “Go post in another thread” which was not the message I intended.

I didn’t care for that particular post but I think there was a bit of of a misunderstanding. His follow-up response made me realize that I had not mentioned the standard 15% BLF discount in the OP as I usually do. I assume everyone would know this but of course we have new members joining all the time so that’s my bad. I should have known better than to post before I’ve had my coffee.

In summary, Hunter you are certainly welcome here and I did not mean to imply otherwise.

For the record, I was not offended by any of this.
Sure I may have rolled my eyes but I did not take this as an insult. I’ve been a bargain hunter my whole life. It’s my bargain hunting nature that led me to BLF in the first place. I try to talk people down on prices all the time when I’m making a purchase. I grew up going to flea markets and garage sales all the time and price negotiations are what it’s all about.

In this case I know all that’s involved and Simon is not getting rich doing this. That’s the only reason I’m not asking him for a special deal on this light. Don’t forget Simon always honors the 15% BLF discount for those who ask for it.

I appreciate your work Jared. Thanks also to TK and Simon of course!!!
Tried firmware on a regular 8x7135 and i love it .

i will order the next few days
