spiderfire x-550 xenon mod potential

Ok, hi, my name is graham and I am a noob  So, I've always had an interest in making light and making fire (its the inner caveman) and finally made my way to blf, cpf just being, well, not too welcoming tbh. Anyhow, I'm also a tinkererer, and fancy having a play at a mod. I dug out a torch(bare with me, I'm a limey) that I bought a few years back as a gun light (air rifles, we don't get to play with proper guns without doing some serious hoop jumping :(( ) my first suprise was that it was a 2 x 18650 host, with dead 18650's, the next was that it sports a xenon bulb rather than the p7 I thought it had :8) . I figured this may be a candidate for an upgrade, so my first port of call was eBay/google, see if anything was available. This revealed that the host has done quite a bit, including a 5 x led (dog I think) but none of the parts appear available separately. I then decided to strip it properly, take some measurements and see if anyone has any suggestions? And just to see what I could measure, using my Avo dmm on the spiderfire I measured a tailcap current of 2.73a. Using a length of 4mm sq cable and my clamp meter I measured 3.4a. Repeating the tests on the ultra fire I got 0.9a (high dmm) or 1.3a (high clamp meter/4mm cable) using the same ultrafire protected 18650's (the new but considered not very good ones). The spiderfire lens measures 52mm, the reflector screws into the bezel pinning the lens (needs a guts oring) the bezel then screws down onto the head which screws onto the body (you get the idea). So what do people think, after doing the under stairs test, I'm more impressed with the xenon bulb, but I do love xm-l's, obviously I would need to find an 8.4v driver (probably single mode, the tail cap is twist on/off/momentary plunger), a reflector 52mm of and then turn up a pill to carry the led star/driver. This should not be too much of a problem as my dad has a lathe at home and is semi-retired. Anything blindingly obvious I have missed? Could I perhaps replace the tail cap? Thoughts please. 8)

I've added the photos lower down, don't appear to be able to edit them in for some reason, but you get the idea, I'll hopefully be more successful next subject

Is there a reason why one image works in a post but multiple ones don’t appear to have worked? Help please? H)

That's the best I can do. It has always worked fine for me with tinypic.

Thanks scaru, I'm using my android mobile, so don't seem to be able to use the complex post editor :tired: My images are on photobucket, and I used the http image code that worked on post #2 perhaps the photos are too big? I'll try a bit more editing, see what I can come up with....

Gords, I have trouble using Android mobile as well. It helps to switch into "disable rich-text" mode and lay out the stuff by hand. A real PITA if you ask me but it's the only way cut-and-paste works on Android from my experience.

Cheers johnymac, I have to do that, I’ll keep playing for a bit, got one image to work just by pasting the link so its doable. I’ll suss the bugger out, even if have to put each image on one damm post >) >)

Hmmmmm, I wouldn’t mind betting this will screw into my bezel, this may be a modder after all >)
