MOD host 1xAA

Hello

please recommend me a host that accept 17mm driver and 16mm led star.

Smooth outfit prefered.

Thanks

Welcome aboard, okupka!

I don't know the solution to your problem, but I can welcome you to the best damn light forum period.

Good luck in your quest.

Welcome to BLF

This is exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks for warm welcome.

Already ordered one :) I hope that XP-E reflector will do well with XM-L

The reflector works great with an XML. I just built another one with a Nichia 219, this boost driver so I can run AA batteries and the reflector works awesome with the Nichia also.

I will use this one:

Already using it in my modded sipik. Loving really low low and no mode memory.

The AA driver I linked has an adjustable regulator you can set it from .5 amps max to 3 amps max.

It's not really an XP-E reflector. I just got mine today and it is more of a XR-E or XM-L hole. It is right at 16mm for the LED star to fit. May need to grind a little unless the star is just under 16.

E - i really like your builds

How does it adjust? Is it with a pot (looks like there is one) or self adjust? Also noticed that the output voltage is from 2 - 7 volts.

Yes it has a pot you adjust it with a jewelers screwdriver and a multimeter.

Yes, but in reality counting with efficiency you cant get more than 500-600mA to LED from AA battery.

Wow it must be extremely inefficient if it pulls 2.5 amps from the battery and only delivers .5 amps to the LED.

So what you are saying is 2 amps is being converted to heat since the energy has to go somewhere.

I will say it's much brighter than a similar LED driven at 1.7amps so I do believe it's delivering more than 2 amps to the LED.

Maybe you are talking about a different driver?

We are talking about 1xAA and boost driver, right?

Just measuring Amp draw doesnt tell the full story. At this draw alkaline will have ~1.2V at best. Counting with XM-L with Vf 3V.

So doing simply math with 80% efficiency - Pin=3W <-driver-> Pout=2,4W --> Iout(with declared Vf)=0,8A. Its better than i wrote, but alkaline voltage sag will be fast at this draw. With other LED with higher Vf it will be even worse.

The specs on DX are always suspect, but your math seams correct.

Most DX drivers are rather cheap built. This one for example pulls 2.2A, no matter if I use 1or2 Eneloop or 1or2 AA.

So why should it be different for other drivers?

The one I linked is a Nanjg-016 adjustable boost driver. The DX brand drivers have been garbage in my experience.
