These are some cool watches. Am I the only one who thinks they’d look better without the day/date complication?

The funny thing is how often I have to check my watch to remind me of the date. I work nights and it has become a most helpful feature. I do agree that the aesthetic is nicer without it.

This is the look in lume without the date.

This Great Wave is probably my favorite, too bad it sold quick.

Yes, a recent discovery. I had no idea people were modding their Seikos.

Picked up a new solar beater, BN0100-51E:

Came on a bracelet that has a ratcheting dive extension which I was really excited for, but… it kinda sucks Tired
No micro adjusts, and the ratchet doesn’t substitute for them like the many Glide-lock style adjustments now available do. At least it had half-links.

Very happy for the price I paid compared to the Seiko solar divers which I was looking at, but are larger than I’d want to wear and significantly more expensive.

eBay, this model was mostly sold in Europe AFAIK and isn’t produced anymore. Was listed as a refurb from a large watch seller and came in mint condition.

it is pretty cool, to have dive styling, with rotating bezel for timing, plus solar, date, and quartz

I found it, it’s a nice nighthawk.

I’ve considered getting an orange watch. I like the monster versions.

IDK if that would be the same watch. The “Excalibur” as it’s called is in the Promaster line.

I love Helm’s styling but desperately want to see something slimmer from them. The Vanuatu dial is fantastic, and not as derivative of Sinn as some make it out to be IMO (if anything Sinn is using Doxa design language). Same tooly/retro-future feel as a couple that Dagaz offers.

Nice!
I really hope to own one of those Helm watches one day, maybe not that one – I have thought about it many times, but the import duty etc puts it that little bit too high for me.
I’m a lume fan, and they have plenty of it lol!

Seems garish to me, but if you were looking for something really different, I’d say you found it!

On Heimdallr’s website or from wrwatches.com

The former has a ton of the Chinese brands like this, San Martin and others that are doing both homage/mashup designs and some orginals as well. I’ve been very satisfied with everything from them. Orient is my Japanese brand of choice and far better quality for the money over Seiko, but both brands have still been pushing their prices higher and higher while changing little or even downgrading watches in Seiko’s case (SKX and Alpinist).

Thanks for pointing these out.

I didn’t see the light until I was allready a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding

Very nice, that white dial is killer!

The “Duro” is such an amazing value. Can’t believe the level of finishing that comes on a $40 watch. If they released one with better lume and a bit smaller case it would dominate at even $80-100. There are different color version out now too!

I have a couple of watches that get daily wear

A G shock G-2900F-2VER

https://www.casio-europe.com/euro/products/watches/g-shock/g-2900f-2ver/

+ Smaller than the full size G-Shocks and very comfortable to wear
+ Robust and cheap enough that no worries if it got damaged
+ Can be configured to illuminate when you turn your wrist
+ Large stopwatch digits, a key reason for selecting it
+ 10 year battery life (claimed)
+ Easy to switch time zone
- When you switch time zone the alarm still has to be set in the home time zone
- The silver bezel ring, would prefer matt finish
I am neutral about the data memory feature, no value for me

The other watch is a Rolex Submariner 16800 that my wife bought me 20+ years ago as an estate piece. Really love that watch although the luminescence doesn’t last long.

On cell phones there’s LCD, OLED, Retina and whatnot
On watches LCD hasn’t changed a bit in the last 20-30 years

Still the same ugly as it every was, not even different fonts not to mention technology
Strange.

Yes…apart from smart watches that need charging very frequently.
