I love that it can use 3xAAA, but retains a 18650 option. I’d like to have a couple of XM-L flood-to-throw lights in my collection, since there are scenarios in which an even spread of light is useful. I realize of course you’d see nowhere close to 600 lumens using 3xAAAs, but you don’t always need a shitload of light either.
I’m about 5 seconds away from ordering one of these, but I just thought I’d solicit some opinions first.
I made typos of omission in my OP, which I can’t correct now have now corrected. Yes, I understand that’s it’s a 3xAAA light. But I’m betting it will put out more lumens than my LL P7, which uses 4xAAA. And I still find my P7 to be a useful light on occasion.
Ha. Far out. I noticed that the bottom edit button disappeared after a certain amount of time, so I had assumed that the forum software only allowed edits within a certain time frame, as is common on other forums. I didn’t even notice the edit tab. Cool, and thanks
By the way, the forum software running here is pretty cool. Lots of nice features
Finally ordered this light from MF about a week ago, and it arrived today. Two words: thoroughly unimpressed.
I’m not going to bother posting any pictures of the body itself. It is what it is and it’s decent enough for the price. In fact overall, the light has some potential. But take a look at the pill:
Notice how there’s no surface below the star for heat dissipation? This is entirely unacceptable. In fact it’s an almost offensive omission, if you know what I mean. Milan was absolutely correct. Something can probably be done about this, although I’m not sure what yet. The driver pulls close to 3 amps on high which makes this a significant concern.
All in all, out-of-the-box, this light is a POS. But I’m not ready to give up on it yet
I bought it because I liked the design. I always knew I was going to pull it apart and rebuild it.
As for AAA, some decent NiMH AAAs can deliver 2 amps hot off the charger, and sustain 1.5. That’s still too much current for a star without decent heatsinking if you ask me.
