Charger upgrade needed for eneloops?

I charge my Ni-MH batteries on a “Tenergy BC1HU Smart Battery Charger NiMH NiCD” aka the “Speedy Box”.
I am thinking about buying some eneloops and don’t want to damage them. Will my charger work ok, or do I need to upgrade to keep from damaging the eneloops?
Also, I guess it’s worth mentioning that I don’t care if the charger is slow since I charge overnight generally and always have a pack of alkaline primaries as backups. I just want to get rid of the alkalines in my remotes and the few lights that I have that are not 18650.

Linky for the charger.

Thanks for the help!

Its fine. Unless you want another one. :P

Next time you buy eneloops, just buy the combo pack that comes with Sanyo’s charger. I’ve got several now, can charge 8 at a time…perfectfor my TK41.

well, the thing is that I would rather spend the money on the batteries than on another charger that I really don’t need.
so if the “speedy box” will charge eneloops just fine, I’ll just stick with that.

You don’t need another charger. It can charge NiMH. Therefore it can charge NiMH Eneloops. And based on the reviews, it clearly does a good enough job for most people. Thing is though that a lot of people over at Amazon seem to get overly excited just because something does what it says on the tin. It’s like “WOW, this thing actually charges my batteries. Then it charges them again. And it’s been doing this for a while now, so it’s fricken AWESOME!”. The truth is that all anyone probably really knows about it is that it’s just another cheap charger. I’m not saying it’s a POS or anything, only that it’s an unknown quantity from a more technical standpoint.

The bottom line is that unless you want to get serious about battery management (and the average person doesn’t, nor do they need to), then just keep using the charger you’ve got. In this instance there’s not really a reason to buy a more advanced one unless you’re already at the point where you’ve decided that you want one. I mean hell, I used a Varta 15 minute charger for years and I was perfectly happy, and that thing destroys batteries (or at least maims them, anyway).

Yeah, I was just making sure that the charge rate and stuff was okey-dokey and wouldn’t damage the eneloops. As far as “getting serious about battery management” - nope. Not even sure what that means. However, I don’t want to do what you were doing and “maim” new batteries when there is no need to.

What I meant by “maim” is that 15 minute fast charging significantly reduces the longevity of a battery. Your charger, on the other hand, will treat batteries more nicely by feeding them at a reasonable rate

good to know! thanks man!
