Test / Review: AmpMax 18650 2900mAh (Black)

AmpMax 18650 2900mAh (Black)

Official specifications:

  • Original Panasonic cell from Japan
  • Built-in protection circuit, guards against over-charge, over-discharge and over-current
  • Triple MOS's for superior high current discharge
  • Improved voltage stability due to low internal resistance
  • PET sheath, environmentally friendly and not easy to crack
  • Steel flat button design
  • Voltage: 3.7V (4.2V when fully charged)
  • Capacity: 2900mAh (discharged at 0.2C)
  • Max discharging current: 10A+/-0.5A
  • Over-discharge detection voltage: 2.5V
  • Dimensions:18.4 mm x 68.6 mm (+/-0.2mm)
  • Current over-flow protection: 5A+
  • Weight: 48g

The cell used can be discharged down to 2.5 volt, in my test I only discharges to 2.8 volt, i.e. I do not measure the full capacity. But then, not all lights will be able to use the full capacity.

Slightly less capacity than a 3100mAh battery and the battery has a slightly lower price.

Conclusion

This battery uses a good cell, this secures many things:

  • The batteries does match in capacity, i.e. they can be used in series.
  • The battery is very safe.
  • The battery has the specified capacity.

All in all a very good battery.

The batteries was supplied by AmpMax for review.

ty nice work like ever, but start adding price and also a referral link or are just another printed panasonic ncr18650 with a working pcb… xD

The website is AmpMaxWorld.com, but it looks like an OEM.

I do not have any price and even if I had it would be mostly useless, there are to large variation depending on country you live in and amount of batteries you order.

Also, some batteries HKJ tests cant even be bought or only some time in the future. I think that would be too much of a hassle, he's doing a great job with all these reviews so finding sources to buy batteries should be the job of the other members here. I mean, most of us wouldnt have anything to do if HKJ would provide all the information. :P

I do wonder, when I get that kind of batteries. What is the purpose of getting them tested, if you do not plan to sell them?

I hope AmpMax will get some dealers or open a webshop (maybe they already have and are just waiting for my test to be published).

I dont know.. but a good example is the Keeppower 2600mAh cell. I contacted "goingoutdoor", the only one on ebay selling Keeppower cells. I was told that they dont want to sell those batteries because their price would be close to the 2800mAh and therefore noone would buy them. I linked them your test (which they quote on the product page of the other cells) and told them that there might be interest. I mean, its not as if these guys would sell hundreds of cells every day.. we will see.

There are a lot of other cells which are hard to find, so what use does it have to get them tested when people buy something else anyway because they cant find them? Thats weird. :D

Thanks very much! Frontpage’d and Sticky’d.

It is available on Flashaholics.co.uk.Discount code “CPF”.

He He……Thnx mate…

After HKJs excellent review, I asked AmpMax if they had any UK dealer, or would be prepared to sell direct. They replied this morning that Flashaholics sell in the UK.

I look at their site reasonably regularly, but missed “this”: Fenix, Nitecore, Zebralight, Eagletac, Olight and Maxpedition. At same price as Eagletac 3100mAh, a bit expensive, but at least another option. Be nice to see it available a bit cheaper.
