I hate to admit it .... but, I just retired my Mag light, in favor of the LED lights. I have been wanting a thrower, that would light up the backyard and more. As an impulse buy, I looked at the favorite online auction sites and found this .... (I am NOT advertising for this company, or affiliated with them) I could not control my weakness .... and "pulled the trigger"

I realize the 5500 Lumens (Mfrs rating) is a bit overstated, and a No-Name light, but it came 3 x 3800mAh Rechargables, charger, free ship.

Shippers reputation was 99.5, so everything looked OK ...

Just What did I purchase, ? I read through this Forum and couldn't find, THIS No-Name, a few similar.

I'm a noob here, and can take a good amount of Bashing (in fun of course) and should have read about some good deals BLF Members have been debating.

If there is something in this post is against Forum policy, Mods please delete

OK, Go Ahead and let me HAVE IT ............ Thank You in advance

Those batteries are 1800mAh at best, not 3800mAh or anywhere near that. They also are potentially dangerous (reverse charging caused by mismatched cells and non-working protection -> explosion). You should get rid of them, and of that charger, too, if you take your health seriously.

Welcome to the family, triple A!

You can expect to get around 3000 lumen at best but the first thing you will need is different cells. The ultrafires are crap.

looking at the leds in the picture they look like XR-E’s NOT XM-L’s Be careful because you may not get what you are expecting

Good catch, Alex! Those are definitely XR-E in the pic. I sure hope that’s not what he gets. :~

THANK YOU SHADOWWW, for the SAFETY Tip.

That is the information I was looking for, I'll check the threads in the Battery area to find a more suitable and SAFE Battery.

Thanks Guys, for sharing your experience and knowledge

I'll take a good look at the pill, and get some new Batteries/Charger.

Triple A, welcome to the forum,

I would check with the seller if the leds are really xml, the pic shows xre, the difference in lumens will be significant, that number of xre woul give you around 1000 to 1500 lumens IF well driven, not near the 5500 advertised which is also doubtful, you might be better off cancelling and getting one from one of the reputable sellers reviewed here IMHO

I noticed this seller too.
He is listing hundreds of these items plus thousands others, one every 10 min.
All those “3x/5x XM-L” torches are XR-E indeed. Never seen XM-L version of the flashlights he sell. No way for xm-l. Even if they switched leds, it would make ugly beam.
It doesnt matter much since nobody is going to get their items because this is the “golden handshake” scam.
He decided to quit business and tries to get as much $$$ as possible from his account with good feedback.
It will take weeks before first negative start to show up, seller will be gone by that time.

Well let's see, I have Bad Batteries, Bad Charger and Xre that should be xml's ....

I think I'll spend the rest of the night reading the BLF threads.

Thank You for your expertise and sharing of information.

Thanks Milan for your insight,

Right now I'm not feeling to well.......I should have read and understood more rather going for the Deal .... unprepared.

What a mess I got myself into .....

Something smells fish here for sure, or is it cheesy? Looks/smells like bait to me.

A new member post what looks to be an enticing buy, but acknowledges something is fishy about it? I hope for your sake you didn’t get caught Triple A.

But my cynical nature smells a rat here. I like the disclaimer too, nice touch. Do noobs post with so much knowledge?

The ebay listing is clearly fraudulent. The light is a Trustfire X9. The X9 only fits ONE 18650 cell, no way three will go in, let alone three 26650’s.

Even if someone made an X9 with 6 LED’s, I doubt it would be very useable with one cell.

The same seller has other torches with much longer battery tubes that are listed as two cell lights.

Alarm bells all round. I hope no one here gets sucked in by the temptation of those “cheap” lights

We all buy crummy stuff now and then, hopefully your order arrives alright. As long as it arrives, the light could still be useable. I wouldn’t use those blue cells in a multicell light but there alright for around the house in lower amperage lights. 1.5 amp draw or less in a single cell light like a Solarforce L2M.

Welcome to BLF, I’ve been collecting flashlights for over a decade and only learned there were others like me and awesome forums like this last year

Thank You Pretzy,

You know a "Little knowledge is Dangerous" and If it Sounds to good to be True" ......

Well, I fell into it. Now I'm trying to get out of it. (Thanks to other BLF Members very candid comments and expertise) I hope other Forum readers see this and STAY AWAY from this store.

Thank You for identifying this light. Another fraudulent listing BUSTED because of YOUR expertise - Terrific Job !

I hope your first deal wont end up destroying your appetite for lumens. That would be a shame.
And then I do hope you find whatever it is you are looking for and have some fun in the mean time

I sent a very direct and firm note off to China, to cancel and refund the purchase price.

8 minutes later I get a note stating my flashlight has shipped (the auction listing stated order processing is 1-2 DAYS after cleared payment and shipping transit time July 11-24th)

Amazing how Fast orders can be "prepared" when you asked to cancel them.

After trading 3 emails in about 25-30 minutes, I received my order cancellation and refund. Case Closed.

I'm a noob, needed help and JohnnyMac, Shadowww, AlexGt, Milan, Pretzy, CarpentryHero, and LEDSmoke ...........

ALL came through with their assistance to share information, and HELP a Stranger.

THANK YOU

Now, I have a (small wad) of currency in my pocket .....

What should we buy ? There's a thread here for purchase decisions, isn't there?

Is there a thread on "Deal of the Day" ?

I better do some more reading and research here,...FIRST.......Thanks a Million --- Triple A

What are you looking for? A thrower, a flooder? Something to fit in your pocket? Although coming from a Mag light I think you would want to start with a a thrower... HD2010 is among the favorites in here, it's about $30 and takes one 26650 (or one 18650 with a sleeve). You will find a couple of huge threads regarding this light!!!

Aloha and welcome to BLF Triple A!

Welcome to the madness, Triple A!

Welcome to BLF AAA.

I see you want a thrower, I'm thinking HD2010 would be good for that. Dinodirect still have that offer HD2010 for $30.32 (use coupon RETAILMENOT10OFF) which is the cheapest so far shipped.

For the batteries, you can get good TF Flame for reasonable price from Manafont, and also an XTAR charger there while you're at it.

That should set you up. For a while at least, until the hunger begins. No turning back now.
